Kim's Travels
Today our super duper sweet Magic Driver let us cruise up to Kaikoura FREE so we could swim with dolphins. It was a pretty easy and quick journey there; about 3 hours. Once we got there we were suited and booted with our gear, yet again I was sporting another highly attractive outfit... Yes thats right, a wetsuit, boots, flippers, gloves, a balaclava, and a snorkel. God I looked good. Anyway, they took us out on the boat for about 40 minutes before we caught up with the dolphins - and we saw a whale on the way! When we caught up with the dolphins we all sat on the back of the boat and waited for the signal to go in. When they blasted the horn I jumped in and froze my pants off - IT WAS SO COLD! Back to the point, it was kinda scary actually, I was so excited then i jumped in and realised I was in the middle of the ocean where I'd just seen a bloody whale... But all was good. We were all singing funny little tunes, as apparantly that attracts the dolphins to us?! Don't think it was anything like the movies or tv... They don't come up to you, you cant really touch them and they certainly don't take you for rides or anything! Nevertheless it was pretty cool, we got to go in about 4 times and it was amazing to be swimming with completely wild dolphins. Afterwards, we got to watch them for ages at the back of the boat witch was really special. Watching them do all their tricks etc... and being so close to them was amazing, they are very beautiful creatures. After changing back into my more normal look we said our goodbyes to all the friends we had made on the magicbus headed back to Christchurch.
