Magic Fountain at Montjuic
Locally it's called the dancing fountain or something like that but Sarah and I have named it the Magic fountain and we're sticking with it!
The fountain is completely off during the week so when we saw it on the hop on - hop off tours we were not excited to say the least but TripAdvisor assured us it was worth it so we grabbed a taxi and off we went.
The show starts at 9pm so we got there at 8pm to give ourselves time to get dinner - no possible chance of getting something to eat, the place was jammed on every available viewing point. We decided to sit across the road which was a good choice and Sarah found us two poles to perch on! There was one policeman to manage the massive traffic vs pedestrians game and he did his job wonderfully - even stopping pedestrians in the middle of the crossing, giving them a lecture (whilst holding traffic up) and then letting them go on their way.
The fountain was lovely but as the sun set, the true spectacle began. Water, water everywhere!
Water dancing to the music went on for hours, first the old folks music, then the funky new stuff. We decided that we'd viewed enough - how many times can you say WOW? I wanted pictures of the fountains behind us - did I mention water everywhere - and we crossed the road. This is where courtesy left the building (or the fountain), we weaved, we scooted in front of people and we pushed our way to the front. Shocking as it was, it was so worth it. We watched the show from up close and got thoroughly wet! We stood next to two french ladies who were having the best time, dancing and woo hooing! They were quite infectious so we danced along with them (but we both drew the line at woo hooing)!
We got back to the hotel at 10.30 and decided we were hungry enough for dinner. Thanks to the ritual of siesta there were lots of places open!
The scary terrifying taxi ride.
Bright and early next morning we took off for the airport. I use the term took off literally as the taxi driver clearly wanted to go as fast as the planes. The drive in from the airport took about 35-40 minutes and the drive back took 20!
I'm sitting in the car saying to myself - "he's a taxi driver, he knows what he's doing - just look at the scenery"! I hold on a little tighter.
Sarah grabs my hand and I say "he's a taxi driver, he knows what he's doing - just look at the scenery"!, I loosely hold her hand whilst keeping my death grip on the door handle and desperately try to think of the Spanish word's for "slower please"!. I glance at the speedo - mistake, speed limit is 50mph, he's doing 80!!!!! He was also very confident in his ability to turn, merge and weave in between traffic.
Safe to say, when we arrived at the airport, we were grateful to get out and got the giddy giggles from our hair raising ride!

Team Nixon Sounds amazing! I bet the fountain puts crown to shame ;)
Nic Fountain sounds spectacular. I think I'm going to have to Utube it. Taxi ride is one for the story bank.
Natalie Brown We are glad you are still alive. It reminded Ross of when he was in Beijing and the taxi driver dozed off to sleep with the kids in the car. He soon woke up when they it a concrete barrier defining the Olympic lane! I can just imaging you both dancing...come on...you must take a photo of ypu doing a woo hoo by the end of your trip!
