Third day in KL!
Arrived on Monday morning after a 21 hour journey, including a painful 7 hour stop over in Melbourne airport in the middle of the night. Emirates isn't a bad airline though, and we got lots of sleep and arrived refreshed in the morning!
Joyce and Chris met us at the airport, an hour bus trip into KL, then the monorail to our backpackers which is in the middle of Bukit Bintang, the shopping, drinking, partying area of KL. Our accommodation is pretty good, small rooms but the all important air conditioning, and a central common room. We have to take refuge in our rooms a few times a day to bring the body temperature back down - its so hot here! However I'm not complaining, it's so nice to be warm, especially me who is always cold!! Our backpackers is above a brothel. so every time we leave the building we have to walk past the hookers who are sitting outside trying to entice the passers by. Drag makeup and everything. I checked out their price list - $RM35 for a 30 min massage ($17nzd) - not sure if that included a happy ending though!!

KL is definitely an awesome experience, dining, drinking and everything is pretty cheap here! Roti Chanai for $RM1 (50c nz), is delicious!! Dinner is about $3nzd. We have been to Chinatown, it turns out I'm an awesome haggler and scored myself a pretty cool handbag for about $15nzd!!

We also invested in a laptop and a digi camera, after loads of shopping around, frustrations and haggling over the equivalent of NZ $10. We are having a competition to see who can take the best pic of the trip.

Went to the chow kit wet market yesterday, fish, cow heads, intestines, toungues, hooves and all manner of disgusting body parts for sale. I couldn't even walk through there as the smell (which was made worse by the heat), nearly made me vomit!! Scored loads of exotic and interesting fruit though including mangoes, rambutan, jack fruit, star fruit and a few others we don't know the name of - divine!!

Off to a fishing village today, keen for a seafood feast. Joyce and Chris are playing a gig somewhere tonight and then we are thinking we will hit a typical asian karaoke bar. Will post again soon!
