Whilst we were in Rotorua we finally did our first exciting activity - white water rafting! We were taken to the place and kitted up in our sexy rafting outfits and then it was straight up to the river! No proper training was involved, we just got in the boat and the instructor would tell us wether to be paddling forwards or backwards, and when to 'hold on', or in extreme cases when we were going down waterfalls, to 'get down'. This involved holding on to two ropes, crouching down as low as possible and NOT letting go! The rapids themselves weren't very fierce, it was mainly the 7 metre waterfall that was the scary part! As you can tell by the pictures our fear was justified, as we did manage to flip the boat and nearly die! (well it felt like we were going to die for a split second!) The boat was upside down with all of us underneath it, still holding on for dear life, and pulling ourselves up for breath. We just had to swim to the outside of the boat so the instructor could flip it back over, but it seemed much more dramatic at the time! This is definately the best thing we've done in NZ so far, but hopefully loads more fun things to come!! Off to Waitomo next. xxxx
