hi everyone! we've been really busy the last few days. whilst in patong beach we rented out mopeds again and drove around the area. couldn't believe it - a full tank of petrol cost us 70p and lasted us for 6/7 hours!! plus the moped was only 3 pounds for the whole day! saw lots of local people, houses, temples (with lots of monkies stealing thier lunch from the bins!)
we had a brilliant day kayaking around water canyons. the guides spoke brilliant english and pointed out all the wildlife around us, such as spider crabs, snakes, lizards and, of course, monkies! two of which jumped onto our boat! we were a bit scared at first, however the guide explained that they interacted with them everyday and so were used to humans. a mother and her baby sat on my lap whilst i fed them pineapple - amazing experience! emma screamed as it swam through the water and jumped onto our boat!!!! was not expecting something jumping out of the water!
also saw houses built after the tsunami disaster. it was quite scary seeing the hazard and evacuation signs everywhere.
everyone always rants and raves about phi phi island so we thought we couldn't let the opportunity pass us by. we took a speedboat around all the islands and had lunch. were in histerics on the way there and back as we were at the tip of the boat. we literally flew up off our seats everytime the boat went over a wave. it was a bit like a rollercoaster! there was a guy being sick at the back of the boat - which wasn't half as bad as where we were sitting. at one point a guy fell over and spilled his coke all over me, himself and his gf.
the islands were gorgeous - beautiful white sand and blue/green sea. had a few hours snorkling - the guys thought it was funny to throw bread right next to us so we were surrounded by fish. not exaggerating when i say hundreds all around us! having said this, there were too many people on the beach at one time, and boat loads more kept coming - so this kind of spoiled it a bit.
patong town itself was very lively, lots of shops and restaurants, quite westernised - there was a boots and starbucks. and of course, mcdonalds and tescos!
well that's all for now, having a brilliant time and will update you soon,
love kim and emma x x x x
