Day 3 Bati market Travel Time: 8 hours, Approximate Distance: 260 km
I'm not a market person so I had no high expectations, but this market blow my senses (and memory card). Bati hosts Ethiopia's largest cattle and camel market, attracting up to 20,000 people every Monday. this market "forms an important cultural crossroads for theAmhara,Oromo andAfar people dressed in their traditional clothing. It was extremely colourful and not a cent touristy (we saw only 4 other tourists). You could buy just everything like, salt blocks from Djibouti, sandals made from rubber tires, herbs, fruit, donkeys but not a single "classic souvenir". It was well worth the extra 6 hour dusty detour.
There rest of the day was spent driving on dusty road, There is roadwork on many places and it seems that in the near future men main roads will be asphalted an cutting travels time significantly.
When we arrived the hotel in the evening there was an "usual" power-cut, the dinner and beer had to be in-taken with the guidance of LED lamps on our foreheads
