The last day today! Now we are near to the end of the walk and creature comforts (ie a shower and toilet) we were all more aware than ever how gross we were and how bad we smelt, this being the longest most of us have ever gone without washing properly.
We woke up at 6.30 as always and had our last breakfast and packed up tent. At 8.00 we had the tipping ceremony with the porters and guides, it was lovely they all sang and danced with us to congratulate us reaching our goal and then we gave out the tips (after a lot of maths the night before) and any kit that we could spare to make their next trips easier.
Then we headed down with Charles and Paul. Again down was a struggle our legs were tired and stiff from the day before. We wanted to get down the mountain and to a shower as soon as possible but our legs wouldn't allow this.
Near the bottom we spotted some blue monkeys in the jungle which provided a valid reason to stop for a while. The jungle was magnificent and all the strains from the altitude had now left us. After around 3 hours the end was in sight as we reached the park gate. We were all so relieved to sit back in the bus in a comfy seat with a back and head to the hotel to a shower, pizza and well-earned beer. Our Kilimanjaro adventure was over. We all agreed it was the hardest thing we have ever done.
Thank you for reading my blog, I hope it wasn't too dull and gives and insight into the last 6 days and the struggle we had to reach the top of Africa. We did the walk for FORWARD, it's not too late to sponsor us! https://www.justgiving.com/Holly-Jacques

Nicky Thank you Holly, it was anything but dull.
Patsy Ehmke Thanks for the blog, it sounds really tough - congrats to all of you.
Tor Holly, well done for writing your blog and even more so for your tremendous climb. Reading it brought a tear to my eye. Even though I did it 13 years ago now, the way you've expressed it made me remember it like yesterday. The struggle and isolation at the end. Crikey! To this day, it's still the hardest thing I've ever been through. But what an achievement! Well done lovely. xx
