This morning we had a bit of a sleep in. The usual breakfast of omelette, cakes, fruit and coffee. Then off with Nicky for our morning lake tour on Tonle Sap lake. This is the largest lake in Asia, freshwater and huge. More like an ocean. The Government has just spent a fortune building this huge, modern port for the tourists to travel around the lake. This morning we set out with Nicky at 7am to see Angkor Thom. We entered at the South Gate lined with 54 statues of gods and 54 statues of demons. The gates are 20 m high and decorated with stone elephant trunks. Angkor Thom is surrounded by a huge moat which was very beautiful and peaceful. 4am alarm this morning. Not much fun! Our guide and driver were out the front to meet us at 5am. Our guide's name is Nicky - nickname of course as he comes from a small, very poor Cambodian village. There is a Buddhist monastery in his village. And the monks took him in and taught him. He actually studied to be a monk for 3 years. But then trained as a teacher. He now works as a guide as it pays more. But in the rainy season goes home to his village and helps out...

It has been a long 24 hours but we are finally here in Cambodia. We flew Brisbane to Singapore and then to Bangkok with Singapore Air with no problems. But the next connection was with Bangkok Air to Siem Reap and this flight was delayed an hour and a half. So we were hot and bothered by the time we got on that plane.
