Kez and Todd's Travels
G' day folks!
Apologies for the lack of colonial reporting, however we have been very busy gathering material to astound and enthral, so let us begin!!
We began our journey down the Easy coast of Oz in Cairns which is found in the north of Queensland. Cairns is supposed to be a city but could easily be compared to the LGC in terms of hustle and bustle. It does however have a lagoon which is like a big outdoor swimmimg pool that has sand and is free, so this we enjoyed greatly, especially as the sea is not to be tackled without a stinger suit at this time of year in the north of Queensland. It is very humid tut north and despite the undeniable fact that Tom cannot deal with the heat it was Kerri who took her time adapting to the tropical conditions. The highlight of Cairns was a shop called "Pricebusters" which sold some crazy cheap stuff and is where we purchased washable playing cards, 3 dollar flip-flops and heavily discounted sun-cream which may or may not have protected us from the old skin C! We also found out that Tom's card had been cloned and ahd to swiftly cancel it. Nationwide very kindly said the money that had been taken would be replaced in the next few days, later we would find out this was not so truthful and $12 of patiently waiting on hold until the phonecard ran out didn't make Tom any happier, but oh well there wouldn't be so many jokes about them if bankers weren't how they are! We would love to tell you more but there is very little to do in Cairns so we should move on to our next stop....Mission Beach.
At Mission Beach we stayed in a tiny hostel which had the kindestman on the planet running the place. He confidently told us he could beat any quote for tours etc. and so slogged away for two days to find us a good deal on some trips we wanted to do before gracefully admitting it was cheaper to go elsewhere, still the thought was there and we got our first display of that archetypal sincerity associated with the aussies. While we were in Mission Beach we thought it might be a good idea to actually plan a route so this is where we decided to sail the Whitsundays. The Whitsundays are a beautiful group of secluded islands off the sunshine coast, and boats leave from Airlie Beach so this was our next stop.
When we arrived in Airlie Beach we stayed in a really cool hostel where Kerri's endless talents secured us a cheap stay by writing a promotional sign for an inept hostel worker named Ben. He turned out to be a cool cat and sorted us some free laundry and drying on top of the cheap room. This might not seem like much, but when you are travelling and tend to smell bad around 90% of the time it was greatly apprciated! From Airlie Beach we booked our Whitsundays sailing. This would comprise of two days and two nights spent on the high seas aboard an 18 metre vessel named "Habibi"!....
All we have time for now, but the Whitsundays will be up soon as mates!!
Tim and Kerrikins!
