From Donna and Clyde: We spent our first full day in Paris yesterday making the most of our Metro passes and travelling far and wide to take in the sites while trying to beat the rain. We started out with a stroll through Jardin des Tulleries and the Champs Elysees to the Arc de Triomphe. After that, we headed to the "new" part of Paris, La Defense to see the Grande Arche de La Defense. We then headed back over to the old part of town to Montmartre where we introduced Molly and Toby to Nutella Crepes and visited Sacre Coeur Basicilla. After a lunch break and a rest at our apartment, we went to the Centre Pompidou and wandered around the amazing collections. After another break for dinner, we went over to the Louvre and took Molly and Toby on a whirlwind trip around the three big ticket items before it closed (Mona Lisa, Winged Victory and Venus de Milo). As we are staying literally across the road, we will head back again as time permits to have a more detailed look at the collections.
Today we headed out of town to Versailles where we joined the masses of tour groups slowing winding our way through the Palace for a close up look at Marie Antoniette's bed etc. We enjoyed a walk through the gardens which were thankfully much more spread out and therefore less crowded, even though the weather resembled Wellington in a stiff southerly! Once we had had enough of Versailles we headed back to Paris and spent the afternoon wandering Musee d'Orsay, where even Toby (who is very hard to impress) was impressed by the Museum building and the impressive art works housed inside. After some window shopping and some more crepes we have decided to have an early night to get some much needed rest before another day of sight seeing tomorrow.
From Molly:
On Wednesday we went to the Lourve and saw the Mona Lisa, Venus de Milo and the Winged Victory and I did a cartwheel on the top of the Arc de Triomphe, then on Thursday we went to a big palace thing and looked around the shops on our street.
From Toby:
On Wednesday we went to the Lourve and saw the Mona Lisa. Then on Thursday we went to see a palace, but the main thing is that I had a nutella, banana and coconut crepe and I also learnt that in French DONUTS are called DOONY'S.
