We got off to an early start with a nice breakfast, heading west around 8 a.m. Cruise control is appreciated through the very flat mid-west. We saw some very unusual cloud formations this morning - miles long and cylindrical, several of them, with blue sky in between. Some of them looked like they could turn into something nasty, but nothing happened while we were driving through.
The drive was pretty flat right through to the Denver area, where we started to see the mountains. We skirted around Denver, heading for Manitou Springs, which is essentially a suburb of Colorado Springs, and the starting point for both the Garden of the Gods and Pike's Peak, the drive up the only driveable 14,000' mountain in Colorado.
We had a wonderful dinner at The Heart of Jerusalem...wonderful middle eastern cuisine.
