Kevin and Joannie on tour
Bit od a long haul. We caught a taxi to Chesterfield Coach station and a coach on to Heathrow via London Victoria. The baggage allocation for the flight from Buenos Aires to Ushuaia was a mere 15 kg so our bags were the lightest they have ever been and we wore all our thick coats and jumpers and walking boots to keep down the weight.
The flight to New York was unproblematic and relatively empty so we had four seat for two of us. At New York we had a very short swap over and despite being met with priority cards to get us through customs and immigration quickly, there seemed no system to facilitate this.
The flight to BA was packed and we had seat in the middle of a row - very clausterphobic! But if you just resign yourself to sitting still and being bored, time passes.
At BA International Airport we couldn't get any money out of the ATMs. This was unfortunate as we hadn't been able to buy any Argentinian Pesos in the UK. Luckily we could pay for the taxi with a credit card.
At Aeroparque (the domestic flights airport) we had a pizza and some wine, before flying to Ushuaia. We also managed to get some money out of an ATM.
At Ushuaia we took a taxi to Ahnen, where we are staying, oblivious that the hostel had sent a driver for us. Tired and not sure of the exchange rate, the taxi driver took too much money from us, something we only twigged later.
There was no one at the address but eventually the guy who had been waiting at the airport arrived and said the management would be there soon. He took us to a small apartment nearby above a family home. It was in a residential area on the edge of the town centre. Basic but clean, it was good to arrive.
Joan walked into town in search of dinner but all the shops were closed (being after 10 pm on a Sunday). Joan found a small kiosk sell basics but had forgotten to take the cash with her. The ATM nearby wouldn't give her any money!
It was going dark so she headed back and it was off to bed with just a glass of water.
