Since I moved to Canada, my travel has been much more outdoorsy than in highly populated Europe. I would like to share my adventures in the wild, since in my opinion they are the true challenges of traveling. I had some prior experience with hiking, camping and kayaking in Germany. Little did I know how different all of these experiences would be in an area that is not groomed and cultured, but in a wild primordial state. I plunged into the adventures, and learned from my mistakes. The rewards were encounters with wildlife, to-cry-for beautiful landscapes, and the defeat of the all too sluggish couch potato within. I would like to share the beauty of nature I was lucky to experience.
Before you start reading my blogs, a few definitions seem in order:
Sneakers Brigade, the:
common term for people who drive to beautiful outdoor destinations, waddle their often overweight frame along few meters of trail to the designated picture spot, take the designated picture, and return to their world of air conditioning and large sodas. Often wear Reebok or other brand name sneakers.
Hiker, the:
person commonly encountered at beautiful outdoor destinations, who has reached same on foot. He might be wearing boots, sandals or even sneakers, but he won't try to get a cab in the woods when trail distance surmounts 5 km.
