Thursday 1st March
It takes us 30 hours of non-stop travelling from Siem Reap to reach Ko Phangan. This is my last week with Kate before she heads off to Perth and around Australia. Simon arrives in 12 more days - very exciting.
We stay at White Sand at Thong Nai Pan Yai beach on the north east coast of the island. It's beautiful, no hawkers, hardly any tourists, nothing to do but sunbathe and reflect on the last 4 months journey.
I also try to forget that we've got another 30 hour journey to Singapore after we leave here. But for now I work on my tan!
Oh yes - and did I mention it's also Full Moon Party on 4th March? Yippee. Kate and I can finally party - we've been so busy doing stuff during the day that we haven't really been out much.
Sunday 4th March
It's the night of Full Moon Party and we've booked ourselves on a boat to get around to Had Rin beach. We get ourselves all dolled up, face paint on, hair trussed and tousled, and get on the long tail paddle boat. The sea was fairly rough and it took around an hour to get there. By the time we reached it, our hair was soaking, stuck to our heads, the combination of the salt water and the mascara that had run in my eyes meant they hurt so much I wanted to cry, and we had to wade through thigh deep water to get to the beach itself, but our clothes were soaked anyway from the boat ride. Not a good start.
By the way, that's why there are no pictures of us as we didn't really feel camera worthy!
The music wasn't great, but we did meet some beefcake guys from Leeds. They tried to tell us they were all worth 10million pounds each from dealing in property but if they had half a brain cell to rub together between them I'd have been surprised. Apparently one of them was a former boxing world champion or some such nonsense. Yeah yeah, and the pope's muslim. Pull the other one.
We'd heard so many horror stories about it being really unsafe, but to be frank it was better than some of the London clubs I've been in. There was a huge police presence and no trouble that we saw.
People wander around with sandcastle buckets filled with vodka and redbull, precariously teetering and weaving from side to side, like a toddler who is unsteady on his legs - ah how things come full circle.
Finally it was back on the boat wading into the sea between rows of men taking a leak there - eugh!
