Saturday 25th August
We drive to a village that GAP supports and are treated to close up encounters with llamas and shown how the locals dye their wool. The colours are amazing. There are also lots of local children who are curious about us and so we chat and play with them.
On our way to the Sacred Valley of the Inca's we pass the ruins of Sasquawaman which is pronounced Sexy woman. We stop there and walk around for a few hours, amazed by the achitecture.
From there we head down to Pisac and once again I find myself purchasing more artwork from a local artist, Alfredo, in his studio. Then it's another long drive with even more stunning scenery along the top of the Sacred Valley until we reach Urubamba where we stop for lunch. We watch a dressage demonstration from one solitary horseman and his steed whcih is seriously impressive.
Another drive through the valley and we reach Ollantaytambo which is just gorgeous. It's all cobbled streets and it's overlooked by the ruins there which are vast. Where the ruins near Pisac were built as a place of worship, these ones are clearly a military defence hold. We take a bunch of daft photo's in the ruins and have a good laugh while learning about the Inca's.
Once again our accommodation is gorgeous with a courtyard where we sit and chat in the sun. We take a walk before dinner around the cobbled streets to see children chasing tyres and people relaxing in their homes. It feels comfortable and safe. And I'm getting excited about the trek which starts tomorrow.
