Bula!
We've been in Fiji just over a week now and absolutely love it, it's paradise!
After a 10 hour delay from Hong kong to Nadi and an hour in customs with very rude Chinese people we finically arrived in Fiji! We stayed in a hostel in Nadi and started our island hopping the next morning.
We are island hopping for 2 weeks around the Yasawa and Mamanuca islands.
The first island we went to was Nacula island and we stayed at Oarsmans bay lodge, we were in a little bure right on the beach. It was a beautiful island but they didn't seem to understand I was vegan and try to feed me fish and chicken :( our last day on the island we went to a cave and swam in the lagoon, unfortunately we didn't have an underwater camera to take any pictures but it was an amazing experience.
Our next stop was Tawewa islands, coral view resort. This more a more modern resort and again we were in a bure. The beach wasn't as good there but the entertainment made up for it. On our last night there Paul decided to go to the toilet just as I got dragged to the front by a fijian man to play a dancing game. The game was like musical statues but 'dirty dancing' as you can imagine I was mortified and quickly made a run for it as soon as Paul walked back in the door. I imagine that's how the Fijian men seduce the foreign women haha.
After 2 nights there we moved on to Nanuya balavu, mantaray island resort. We arrived at the resort to storms and the boat there was terrifying to say the least. Mantaray was a much bigger resort full of other backpackers so it was quite lively at night. We stayed in a tree house there with shared facilities. It rained most of the time we were there so we didn't get up to much.
We are currently at Drawaqa, barefoot island lodge an this is by far my favourite so far. There are 3 beautiful beaches, sunrise, sunset and mantaray. We are staying in a bure on the beach but it's more like a tent with our own outside toilet and shower. We went on a half hour hike up a mountain yeterday afternoon and saw some breathtaking views of the Yasawa islands, there's a dog on the island with a bad leg that keeps following us about and he showed us the way up the mountain. Last night we had our first experience of kava! I was very disappointed as I was expecting champagne (cava) haha. It was not the best tasting thing but we both felt rude saying no and ended up having 4 cups of the stuff! Very dodgy stomachs this morning.
We are leaving barefoot today and heading to Waya island, octopus resort for 2 nights then on to beachcomber (the party island) for 3 nights.
Miss you all
Kerri & Paul
