Good evening all!
Finally had the chance to sit down and use the internet for an hour! We've been pretty much non-stop since we arrived in Thailand. We arrived early on Monday after a decent flight and had our first experience of the awesome transport system in Bangkok (clean, quick and cheap - completely the opposite to the UK!). Our hotel for the first two nights was incredible. Free beer from 5-7pm every day (taken full advantage of), great pool and friendly people. Good welcoming start to Thailand. Explore the city for the first 2 days. Bangkok is pretty much non-stop hectic 24/7. Nothing ever stops and everyone wants to sell you everything from Spurs football shirts to their very own wives! Met some english people on the 2nd night and went out clubbing to a place called Scratch Dogs which was amazing. They just repeated Katie Perry and No Speak Americano all night long!
Woke up on Wednesday pretty hungover and by some miracle found some woman who took us to a random shop and sold us a train ticket to Chaing Mai, 3 nights in a decent hotel, and a two day/1 night trek into the jungle to live with some villagers - all for about 80 quid. Result. Took the night train which was really good. Tobes slept for 12 hours straight. Arrived in Chaing Mai which we immediately liked more than Bangkok - more chilled out but still loads going on. Departed for the trek on Friday morning. Felt pretty horrific as all we ate for breakfast was red bull and oreos but managed to survive! The trek was amazing - met some crazy dutch guys, who we instantly got on with as they liked pretty much everything we did - football and beer! Spent the night drinking Changs with the village people (not the band), which was brilliant. Serenaded everyone with our rendition of Daniel Beddingfield's Gotta Get Thru This! The night in the jungle was pretty scary but we suvived (again) - saw a few HUGE spiders, a beautiful waterfall and rode some elephants.
We arrived back in Chaing Mai and moved down to Pai were we are now. Small hippy village of a population of about 2,000 people. Spent today hiring motorcycles and driving around the outskirts looking at waterfalls, hot springs and La Thai Canyon. Everything around here is super picturesque! Met some cool Danish girls last night - as most of the people here are gormless hippies it was good to speak to someone normal!
The plan now is to head back to Chaing Mai for a few days, then take the slow boat to Laos, then head back to Bangkok before hitting the islands for a month. We will try and update as much as possible but we seem to being doing stuff 24/7 - as if we have 25 more weeks of this! We do have some great photos but the computers here are pretty tempremental so we can't upload them. Right, off for a few more Changs and a night out in Pai.
Peace out!
