Blog time. And once again it's been a while coming. i think last time Alex finished of with us in Kho Tao. That place was nice. From there we travelled to Phuket, which as it happened, is not nice. This is the place for old men old men to have fun - you can use your imaginations. Slightly creepy, but slight funny. Anyway, the beach was covered in parasoles, the sea was brown (with added plastic bags for fun) and the old people were leathery. It was also back to running the gaunlet of suit shops, ping pong shows and lasyboys, with the added bonus of some western guy trying to get you to go a club so he can get some commission. Saying that, a quality night was had in Phuket - lots of Chang was consumed which is always a good start, and ended in me and a Kiwi taxi-ing out of town to an all thai reggae bar where we the only white people there. Pretty awesome actually. Got 3 on a taxi moped and went home about 5am.
So from seedynees of Phuket, we went to paradise on Phi Phi - the island of beautiful people, so obviously me and Kenz slotted right in. First night with new friend Gary aka G-Money in tow, we had authentic thai food - pizza... with massaman curry on it! Seriously my new favourite meal. Then G-Money got drunk and had a moustache tattooed on his finger by a drunk tattoo artist with no teeth. Safe to say though, the tattoo worked wanders with the ladies. A few nights partying on the beach to the early hours and days spent sweating in our sauna of a room, were follow by an incredible day of snorkelling. Starting at 7am, we went out to swim with Black Tipped Reef Sharks. Saw one about a metre plus long. They don't attack humans, apparently, but i'm pretty sure they were just scared of me. They could probably smell the shark on my breath from Kho Tao Valentines day, so they quickly scarpered. Sensible move. From there we went to a bay on Phi Phi Lei, which is an island south of Phi PHi, and where the filmed the film, 'The Beach'. It was surrounded by limestone mountains, filled with the bluest of seas and basked in searing sunshine. Then we went to the actual beach. The famous one. Amazing but hundreds of tourists. We headed back to the mainland via monkey bay, where i fist bumped a monkey and watched them drink coke.
The following day we boarded a boat back to Phi Phi Lei, this time to stay the night on the beach. Arrived about 5pm and by 6, it was deserted. Seriously like, the were only 20 people on the whole island. Played beach football and broke my toe, but nothing a couple of beers and ibruprofen couldn't fix for the night. It's also nice to know that even when you on an island paradise you can still get a bucket of alcohol for a fiver. The thais have it sorted. Our guides, M and Smoking Dave, provided some amusing entertainment with fire sticks and being just general legends. Phosphorus made the sea glow which just made it an even more aweomse beach. Slept on the beach itself, just by the sea and woke at 6am for the sunrise on the otherside of the island. I'm pretty sure i've actually never watched a sunrise, but if i ever see another one it'll have to go some way to top this. Amazing. It's the kind of moment you'd probably choose to propose to your wife or something equally important, like update your facebook status.
Then, all of a sudden, it was our last night in Thailand. I wish we could say we had a massive blowout and went out in a blaze of glory. The reality is we both felt pretty average (our first real illness) and had a quiet night in watching Wrestiling and the return of Stone Cold Steve Austin. At least it wasn't a complete let down.
From Phi Phi went descended to Penang in Malaysia. I've heard people rave about this place but seriously, i can't understand why. Our first meal was gourmet treat of plain doritos and undercooked chicken wings. My favourite. Anyway, Malaysia is pretty expensive compared to Thailand, so the 20pound a day budget had a hard time accommodating alcohol. We decided to blow it instead a nice hotel room and a Nando's for and left quick smart for Kuala Lumpur. Also it rains alot in Malaysia. KL in comparison was pretty awesome. We arrived after a horrific bus jouney that took twice as long - 10 hours - and broke down twice... once on the motorway. Can a man get a Kenzie's? Eventually got to our hostel about 9/10pm and headed straight out to KFC (which comes on a cermaic plate) and hit the Carlsberg Special Brews - cheapest we could find. Went to Reggae Bar which was to become our new club for the next 4 nights. The following day we headed up the KL Tower for spectactuar views of KL. Kenz also got called handsome by a malaysian woman... and man. Went Nando's again, and then found a Malaysian off-licence, which saved the day with its 1.50pound bottles of vodka. Kenz also found a Malaysian shop which old nothing but premium strength beer. Our favourtie was Eagle. A wonderful 600ml can filled with 14.2% lager. Fantastic. For about the price of a large packet of crisps too. Our final day in Malysia, we took off to the national museum. Never went inside but rode segways around it! Those things are incredible! Why i've wasted my life walking i'll never know. Also went on a rollercoaster on the 8th floor of a shopping mall. Pretty sweet.
Left for Singapore for one night. Nice hostel, rained alot, but ate stingray and had a Singapore GIn Sling. Bloody expensive place tho, and plans to visit the casino thankfully never came to fuition.
Anyway, currently sitting in Cairns, Australia sinking a Tooheys. Second day. Its pretty small but a good St. Patricks day was had last night. Green Lager and Spaghetti Bolognaise all round. Managed to get some sun tan time in and have already clocked the shore-side gyms for some G and T action. Hip Hop House Party tonight with my 5 litre bag of Fruity Lemon and Lime, affectionately known as a goon. Till next time i guess. And if you're reading this... I love you.
Peace
Toby and Kenzie
