Day Two:
Woke at 6.10am next morning, had to sort packing, get breakfast and say our goodbyes for now. It was time for a massive drive to Walpole in South West Oz! About 400km away.carol drove first 3 hours, I was in charge of breakfast and directions. Who says men cant multi task!!
We stopped in town ending in "....up" there was millions of them in seemed but this is where we swapped driving duties. I drove to Walpole, we had nice lunch in Wooz and Sues cafe (beef pie...yum yum). The cafe reminded me of something from "My Cousin Vinnie"!
After lunch we headed across road to info shop and bought our tickets to the famous tree top walk! It was about 18km from Walpole but so worth it. Amazing views although the bridge was shakey at times! Got some great pics and lots of dizzy spells!
That took us about 1:30 hours and we then set off to Augusta..one of the most south western points of Oz and another 3 hour drive across dark empty freeways and always on Roo (Kangaroo) lookout - only managed to see one standing near side of road but given our little car, I'm thinking the Roo would win if he collided with our car!
Reached Augusta, weary, tired and hungry, checked in just before reception closed :-) and went to room. As we came in to Augusta, it looked "open" - however as we drove in after check in for food, it was like someone turned the s***ting switch off on the town. Bar a hotel which looked like so something from "The Shining " we were at Lands End for places to eat. So the shining it was..
Before we Checked into YHA hostel, the lad behind counter gave us class map with all key tourist areas. Something which would be quite handy over coming days!
The hotel we ate in had the smallest off license with the most amount of alcohol i have ever seen in such a small spot! Bought a bottle of wine for $8 (love Oz!!) as a write this section I am back in hostel room drinking my lovely White wine from bottle like a proper Irish drunk back packer!
