Lot of trouble sleeping last night mainly due to humidity. Could not for the life of me adjust to it - kept tossing and turning all night.
We woke and seen we were parked next to an activities field which had 3 games of baseball going on...f**k, there goes my bond of $2500 we had to put down on the van!
We got dressed and had mega quick breakie before booking into same site (but powered tonight).
We then set off to Port Douglas, a road that would put the ring of Kerry to shame, both for the cut of it aswell as the magnificent scenery.
Sat nav was already proving it's worth getting us out of Cairns etc.
I found Port Douglas a very hip and cool place, only one esplanade really of shops and cafés but bustling. Well worth a visit. Picked up a pair of shades for $15 after breaking the last ones!
We parked up near 4 mile beach and had picnic for lunch before heading back towards Cairns as we wanted to go to a talk/presentation about the great barrier reef before actually visiting the reef (Saturday was last night of the talk while we were here).
We stopped off at Rex lookout and watched some mental old dude who was paragliding (the run the activity from this spot). Fair play to him, took about 15 mins to set up before he dived off a cliff with the guide attached to him! Was up there about 20 mins, which was good value! Would Defo do this over a sky Dive. I have no desire to leap from a plane. This one plane company boasted 10,000 'successful and fun' jumps. Guaranteed, if I'm next in that, that chute will not open!! F**k that.
We stopped quickly for a few pics at Oak beach before doing a half hour or do of bathing at Ellis beach. Great at this time of year as it's still hot but beaches are empty!
Had a very quick beer stop at Coles outside Cairns before arriving back at site. We were a bit stuck for time so there was never a pasta bolognese made or eaten so quick!
We packed all gear into van including our left over / tomorrow's dinner bolognese and dashed towards lake street, about 10 mins away.
Thankfully, we made the talk about the great Barrier reef which consisted if a 100 slide presentation, a small sales pitch and some free tea/biscuits! Well, I say free, it cost $18 at door but very worth it! The talk went through all different species you are likely to meet on the reef, including sharks! Yikes!
After that was done we walked back to van, both very weary and before a little night cap, we went off to our leaba.
