Day one. Shout out to On Route Shuttles for the ride up to Auckland airport. These guys provide a top class service, arrived slightly ahead of schedule and I would definitely recommend these guys as an alternative to airport parking. Cost is usually $100 from Morrinsville / Te Aroha / Cambridge each way but you can get cheaper if you get a return trip. Give them a call 0800 438986 or email [email protected].
Everything ran smoothly and Dan and I were first to arrive at the airport. As you will see from the pics, he was selected for a 'random' check. Can i just add that guys travel so light. My luggage came to 8.8kgs and Dans came to 7.7kgs. (Photo) Thats pretty much our carry on luggage!
The new Fiji Airways A330 is beautiful. We are one of the first to experience this plane. Plenty of room and space in economy. They were a little late to start the entertainment and finished it far too early so didn't get to see all of my movie (life of pi) I had a chicken roll and coleslaw for the meal and a rocky road (rock hard) ice cream! (Not quite the hot dog Kirsty). A lot of families on board and kids were well entertained. Would have no problem selling Fiji Airlines to clients.
Off the plane and it is like a sauna. So warm and just when i thought summer was over here here we are with another dose of sun. And it starts....BULA! "Bula, Bula" :)
Fiji is great because it is only 3 hours from NZ and is in the same timezone as NZ too. So no jet-lag or confusion when ringing back home. Did you know that Fiji is first to see the sun (not gisborne)
As you know I love staying connected to the world. I got a free sim from Vodafone and purchased $15 credit. I can message, call, viber, facebook, update and I am not going to be charged massive roaming fees while I am away.
Fiji reminds me a little like Thailand. In Nadi its dirty, rubbish everywhere and quite 3rd world. Then you go into Denerau and its like you are in a totally different place. Tonight we are staying at the Fiji Resort and Spa Managed by Hilton. Very nice rooms. We are staying in a studio room. It is also interconnecting so great for families. A lot of the rooms have BBQs so you could purchase your own meat and cook it yourself or have a chef cook it for you (quite reasonable).
Check out photos of the one bedroom unit with kitchen and laundry facilities. The resort caters for both couples and families really well with Adults only and family pools. They also boast a great kids program which has just been relocated. Spa treatments available and seafood platter night on the beach every Wednesday well worth it!
We had a similar version of it tonight and it was great. You can also hire the same setup on the beach for around $120fjd per person and have a really romantic and yummy dinner on the beach.
After dinner we got to go in a golf cart around the resort. It is so big when I compare to say the Pacific in Rarotonga. This is about 3 times the size.
Tonight I couldn't decide if i wanted a bath or shower, so i said stuff it I'll have both. First world problem I know.
Tomorrow its off to Plantation Island for a bit of snorkelling.
