We got into Bangkok at 7am and managed to catch the bus into Khoasan road just in time! I felt that I was in paradise after Delhi, it was so nice and my mood changed instantly! We found a room in a really sweet little backpackers place for 500 baht a night and went for a massive brekkie after not eating for two weeks in India, it was much needed and was so nice. We stayed in Bangkok for two days and just went to visit all the buddas and of course the floating market…..We then 'cleverly' decided that it was a good idea to get a bus to Pattaya, the 3 hours there were bloody torture as the so called air con was not doing its job! So we get into pattaya and are just wanting to get into the sea……HAHA well why the hell we decided to go there is anyones guess as I was the only western girl in the whole place, it was full of western guys and their thai girls attached as their right arms, I was not amused at all…..we were so hot cause we walked up and down looking for a place to stay with our backpacks, and were getting increasingly agitated as all we could see were sleazy hotels with signs on them saying 300 baht for three hours and inbetween these hotels were go go bars….,..we eventually found a half decent place, and after climbing the million steps up to the forth floor we went and had a much needed dip in the ocean. We arrived in pattaya at 4pm and by 7pm when had booked our bus to Koh Chang the next day at 7am, if we could of left that night we would of!!! After pulling back the sheets of the hotel bed, and little curly black hairs we staring back at us we had no choice but to laugh!
Koh Chang is the second largest island in Thailand and its not as built up or commercialised like any other islands….but its getting there! The first two nights we stayed on white sandy beach and realised quickly that is was the more expensive part of the island…we were paying 500 baht a night for a room and thought it was really good but then we went to the backpackers part of the island and found places for 100 baht (£2) a night, and they are pretty decent a liitle hut with own bathroom fan and double bed….mind you the beds can be something of a worry as the first night on lonely beach we stayed in a place and did not feel the mattress (first mistake) the mattress was kaylight and a think piece of material it was just as good as sleeping on the floor, the worst night sleep I have ever had, we both woke up with backache….oh and clever d*** I am bought a mozzie net that was not meant to hang from the roof over the bed but to tie to a tree outside and cover a single sleeping bag haha that was fun trying to sleep under! The first couple of days on Koh Chang we had s*** weather as it is monsoon season and it pissed down all day, one bright idea was getting a scooter and going around the island and hoping to see some waterfalls but that soon changed when the mother of all storms decided to break open on us…..we swiftly went back to our hut, parked up and had a good sulk! The next few days were stunning,, weather was perfect and it was our opportunity to go and fry our skins a golden brown colour, or should I say pinky and sore to look at colour!
The rest of the week has been so beautiful weather wise so we decided to hire another scooter and attempt going to see the waterfalls, it was well worth it as the one waterfall was so nice, it had a huge pool to swim in and was so refreshing, nice change from salty sea water. We went to a second one but that was not as nice and on the way to it I slipped and hit my shin on a rock and stubbed my toe so have an egg shame bloody sore on my leg! It was very painful and I had to let out a huge scream and would not let Darren talk to me….you know how it is! We went diving on Saturday, the diving part was fantastic, the coral was so colourful and there were so many different schools of fish. I of course got sea sick so when I was in the boat I was hanging off the side or stuck in the loo or feeling really s***! Koh Chang is a nature reserve so no fishing is allowed! When we hot back we were so shattered that we ended up sleeping the rest of the afternoon away. We are planning on moving on to Cambodia now as we have relaxed way too much now and if we do anymore we may never leave Thailand……it has been great and has been an experience as we have been right in the middle of monsoon season so some days have been miserable but others have been beautiful
