So day 2 started earlier then expected when my room buddies decided to come home rather drunk at 5am!! Spent the morning with a walk around part of Bangkok, some how stumbling across the 'Golden Mount' which I decided to take a look at, not realising the amount of steps that would get me eventually to the top. Sweaty is an understatement, I was drenched by the time I got all the way up. There were lots and lots of Buddhas on the way up and within the temple at the top, there were even more Thai people praying and offering flowers to Buddha.
It's amazing how these huge buildings are there shining in gold and sparkles stuck right in the middle of a shanty town where people are living in corrugated iron buildings. I walked through numerous markets/street sellers cooking and selling good knows what. Eventually I decided on getting a tuk tuk back as I had no idea where I was, so a scary, hair raising speed dash through Bangkok got me to the tourist information. 30 minutes later and with all my bargaining skills, which lack miserably I came away with a train ticket for a 12hr overnight sleeper to Chaing Mai, a trip to the floating market and a day excursion to Chaing Rai and Laos borders.
So tomorrow after visiting the floating market I will be bidding farewell to Bangkok (for now) and heading to Ayutthaya for one night before getting the night train to Chaing Mai on Tuesday.
Tonight I met up with Donna and Nick on Khoa San Road, very weird meeting up with someone you work with on the other side of the world. We went out for a meal and then went for a few to many cocktails. It's now 2:20am, I have a fuzzy head and my alarms set for 6:30am to get up for the floating market. Pay back for last night my dear room buddies!!!
