Wow - I can't believe that we haven't submitted a blog yet for Australia! Sorry guys!
Well, what can we say - after all the hustle and b uslte and hard work of South East Asia Australia has made us realise that... we actually really miss it! If anyone every tells us they are going travelling around Australia we will laugh! It's all too easy here! It is gorgeous though.
We started off in the North, Quensland and had our first taste of the Great Barrier Reef with an intro scuba dive. It was out of this world! I didn't really take to the whole 'dive' part of the trip as I kept floating! The instructor and Lee kept having to pull me down - I don't have a clue what I was doing wrong but it was an amaxing experience.
From here we went further north to Cape Tribulation where we had our near death experience (onlky joking parents! We're being slightly dramatic) although we were scared stiff! We had the clever idea of going to a bar in the middle of the rainforest, without torches and then had to trek back through the forest in the pitch darkness. It was like a scene from the Blair Witch project. We had spent the day on a tour learning all about the animals that can kill you here and then we go off like that - really not clever but we live to tell the tale.
From Cairns we travelled to Mission beach which was just perfect. We went on bush walks and found hidden little coves which were just beautiful - looking back after hitting the packed beaches further south we realise just how special these places were.
Next stop Magnetic Island, more bush walks with wild koalas and bush cottages with wild possums running around causing havoc at night. THis took us to Airlie beach and one of our higlights so far - Whitsunday sailing. After a rocky start we really found our sea legs and some great people as well who we have kept in contact with and even been on a road trip with an Irish couple we met who had rented a car. IT was a brilliant experience and the whole trip couldn't have been more perfect. WE anchored in some mysterious places in the pitch darkness, with some very big splashes rocking the boat at night and making our imaginations run wild!
Since then we have road tripped down to the Town of 1770 and Agnes Water, driven a 4wd on Fraser Island where the beach is a registered highway and camped on the beach, walked the coast lines around Nooosa, been to Steve Irwins zoo and stayed with Jason for a week in Brisbane. Wow - that's a hell of lot when you have to write it all down in one big chunk! But from here, we then went to Arrawarra, a tiny stretch of beach in the middle of nowhere to learn how to surf and where Lee managed to rope 2 other people into getting a taxi to the nearest RSL club (exactly l ike the con club back home - there is no escape for me!) to watch Manchester Utd v Barcelona. Next stop, Coffs Harbour before heading to Sydney where we are really roughing it at the Holiday Inn!
Our roof top pool has views over the Sydney Opera House and HArbour Bridge! We can see them from the hot tub and god do we feel spoilt! Keep a look out for the pics of us looking out at the Opera House in Beach towels - not many can bag a picture like that!
Anyway, I would love to go on about what we did in Brisbane and Sydney in greater detail but we have just got back from the pub and Lee is falling asleep in the chair next to me!
Next instalement soon I promise.
