This morning we went for a drive to the Valley of Giant Trees Treetop Walk. On the way we stopped off for morning coffee at Swiss Annie's Chocolate Lounge, YUM! Great coffee and really good chocolate! The drive to the tree top walk is very picturesque, great roads going up and down dale through beautiful farm land and Karri Forests! We were surprised how busy the Tree Top Walk was. I suppose we are now in areas that are relatively close to Perth so there are more people at the tourist attractions we are visiting. We did the walk, and even though heights aren't our thing, we all loved it! The walkway spans are made of steel, but they still sway a lot which is a little disconcerting, the view from up in the tree canopy is awesome, it was a great experience! When I was 12 I came to this area with my parents and I remember we parked our Kombi in the hollow base of one of the giant Tingle Trees. Well unfortunately you can't do that anymore, but there is a mock up tree with an old Holden that you can sit behind the windscreen and take photos as if you are actually parked in the tree. Apparently the Tingle Tree has very shallow roots and they grow very tall and tend to fall over. The huge hollow in the base of the Tingle Trees is created by fires burning the dead wood and also insects eating the dead wood from inside the massive trunk. There are still quite a few trees with hollows large enough to park a small 4wd inside! It really is awesome country along the south coast of WA, we're loving it!
