Berkeley, California
Elizabeth's is the best B&B in Berkeley--too bad she doesn't do this for real. Her chocolate chip pancakes are the best!
Yesterday we BARTed and cable-carred and street-carred and even mini-van cabbed all over San Francisco. I should not forget the aslking and standing while we waited for street car F on Market. We saw 4, yes FOUR, go the other direction, and that wasz the straw so to speak and we hailed our cab to Pier 39.
But I'm telling this out of order! Our first stop of the day was Thrift Town in the Mission district. It's a two-floor thrift store with tons of stuff and their merchandise is all over the board. We saw a dress that was obviously handmade, very likely in 1971, with some sort of candy print and lace trim. And yet Moriah found a cute pair of Aldo heels. I got a Coach mini bag. We passed on the plether fake Prada bag :)
From there we proceeded to Market Street where we procured visitor day passes for the Muni and cable cars at the Powell Street station. On our way to the cable car stop, we came upon a huge Forever 21 and Moriah had to go in. We all ended up with cool sunglasses :)
The cable car took us to China Town where we had lunch and did some shopping. We ate at The Four Seas, where my friends who went to 4 Cs ate when they were here in March! Four Seas/4 Cs ;P I also managed to find the tackiest gift ever for Laura. It's sssooo tacky, I am embarrassed to say what it is . . .
After China Town, we got on a cable car that was going to hook us up with a street car to Pier 39, but as I mentioned already--no dice! A $7 (pre-tip) cab ride was worth it to just get there! It was getting realy chilly as the sun was going down, but Camille and Moriah got on the Carousel ($5 for two tokens) and enjoyed themselves like they were still little--aw. WE checked out the BIG seals just off the pier. They were talking up a storm; you've just got to see them in person. Alcatraz is out in the bay fairly close so we got pix with it in the background--too much time and money for a short visit to the city.
Street car F showed up to take us part of the way to Ghiradelli Square where there was some awesome hot coca to be had. Camille and Moriah had Classic but I got Sea Salt Caramel Hot Cocoa--OMG! And Elizabeth had a Hot Fudge Sundae--truly adventurous!
From there, the cable car goes all the across town to the Powell street station again and from there we got back on the BART to Berkeley (but not before a cross-dressing homeless man got a dollar and I got a kiss on the cheek. I waited until he was gone to wipe it off =]
