Well arriving with the heat and Crickets in Longreach we parked in a 500 site park with just three neighbors. It was 105 degrees and our a/c was struggling. We set up shop and headed for the pool, it was greenish and that kept Joy out I went in. Too hot to eat we did laundry which dried no lie in 15 minutes on a line. The wind was blowing the 105 degree heat around and there wasn't a tree around.
*** In the morning it had cooled to 90 degrees which felt like 65 to us. We had decided that the STockmans museum was our first stop and so close we biked on over. Spent a lot of time in the museum as its was well air conditioned and interesting. **
* The next morning we had an appointment to take a behind the scenes tour of the Quantas Museum. SO at eight am we met our guide at the museum and did a through tour of a retired 747. We saw the luggage compartment and got to climb up into the tail section. We got our pictures taken in the pilots seats and climb down into the electronics area under the passenger seats. *
** We used up half the day at the Quantas museum and thank a friend for recommending this spot to us as it was very cool climbing all over this plane. We turned our motorhome southbound towards Tambo Australia for a Teddy Bear stop. This was an add on as Joy wanted one of these teddies. A nice little town I found a barbershop and got an Australian haircut. Next was our longest drive for the trip 650 km. We were high tailing it the Gold Coast and a stop at our buddies place. *
** Arriving in Gympie we were directed into a field to park in our buddies yard which looked like a bird sanctuary. Waking early the next morning we headed for the Australia Zoo which is the zoo that Steve Irwin and his Father started. The Zoo is great and offered Koala handling pictures and other Australian animals up close. The sad spot is that there are pictures of Steve everywhere he is really loved at this place. ***
That night we headed for the horse races, not accepting our New York licenses we had to pay $15 each to get in which I always hate to do. The races were interesting as they are so different leading up to the race and after. Betting was with Bookies and we all lost money and headed home. **
Our final day in Gympie we headed for Rainbow Beach and Tin Can Beach before wrapping up our tour and heading for the Gold Coast. We plan on staying in the Gold Coast until the weekend then head maybe inland again as its way busy here. With only two weeks to go we'll be back in the States before we know it.
