Ilha Do Mel, Brazil
1st Blog
Hi Everyone, Sorry its taken a while to get this blog up and running.
So were back on our travels, firstly we would like to thank everyone for your messages of support and for being there when we were home.
We arrived tired and weary from a 24 hour plane journey in Foz Do Iguazu without our bags as they were lost in transit, great! However only had to wait a day for them to arrive. Foz Do Iguazu is a small town a bit like slough not very pretty considering it hás the most beautifull attraction in Brazil. The town is on the boarder of Argentina and Paraguay connetcted by a waterfall bigger then Niagra falls. We stayed in a nice hostel and met some really nice people a native family a guy from wales cycling 2000km accross Brazil and a Czeck girl.
I (jen) had my Birthday whilst in Foz so we decided to go to Argentina to check out the waterfall from that side - Wow it was amazing the national park was so beautiful with thousands of butterflies in every colour of the rainbow (pics to follow).
Having spent enough time in Foz we caught an overnight bus to Curitiba with and American guy who we met in the hostel called Layton. He is 18 from Colorado. The trip down was a bit eventful the bus got searched by FBI type agents with guns!! All ok Neil slept right through it.
We then caught a connecting bus to Paranaguá then a boat to Ilha do Mel (Honey Island) where we were immediately met by a friendly but scary tall brazilian lady she told us she had a pousada (B&B) we could stay in that was cheap. As we were walking the half hour trek on this island derrived of all transport it became apparant that it was her house not a B&B. As we walked up to it we couldn´t belive it was where we were going to stay! No windows or doors and no carpet bathroom and only one light! Layton decided to camp - good idea wish we had a tent. The family cosists of Teresa, Everr and the devil child little Frederico. We had originally thought we would spend one night here then move on but the family have been so welcoming we have spent 4 nights and are staying untl Thursday. We have been treated to some amazing home cooked brazilian food Even Neil likes the beans!
The island is so beautiful the first few days were lovely and hot and Neil did some Surfing or at least tried! We went on a cool night walk to another village took about an hour to get there but about three on the way back due to the beers and the rocky passing that we nearly didn´t make it through as the tide was coming in - scary! We saw so much nature on the walk a couple of tarantula´s and so many stars including some shooting ones.
Been out a few times its quite quiet here but this weekend it was a brazilian holiday so there were lots of young people here to surf. Ended up partying to a brazilian band with lots of friendly people language was no barrier after a few drinks. Actualy learnt quite a lot of portuguese! then we went to a party on the beach near us. Really good fun.
Teresa hás also given Jen a lesson in Potuguese and we are both begining to pick up some basic words and sentances. Its so hard and we really need to learn some quick as hardly anyone speaks English and everyone speaks at least one other language.
Just been chilling today as its raining, heading back to Curitiba on Thursday to catch a fight to Fortaleza in the north of Brazil.
We will keep you posted on our next adventure.
more photo´s to follow from the other camera.
Miss you all
Love Jen and Neil
