Back in Hanoi, we spent the next couple of days exploring again, this time with Dave and Laura, the English couple from Wigan we met on the boat.
Night 1 - lets have some beer and noodles. What could go wrong... Has that saying ever been used and drama not followed?
A big portion of street food cost £1. We paid the correct amount (this bit is important) and left - both us and the local woman happy.
A few minutes later, the same local woman was running after us saying we owed her 20000 dong (60p). We didn't, she'd just confused herself.
She was screaming and grabbing our arms, trying to gesture that we'd short changed her.
She spoke to various other locals saying that we'd pretty much stole money from her and they tried to translate - didn't we look like bad travellers.
We maybe living on budgets, but we wouldn't need to run out on a bill, paying 60p short between four of us.
Eventually, she realised her error and quickly ran back to her shop without apologising. We needed beer - thankfully, pint sized bottles for 30p are widely available in Hanoi.
After looking round the sights and the night market, me and Vikki decided it was time to book our open bus ticket to Saigon. 1200 miles, 4 stops in the places we wanted to see, all for £35, and this with the most reputable travel company in Vietnam, Sihn Travel. What could go wrong... Oops, there I am using that phrase again!
