Things we have learnt on our travels
1. When reading a menu Chicken can also mean Fish
2. Never trust a sign with the distance to destination when trekking. How can a sign say 2.5kms to destination then after walking for 30mins the next sign read 2.6kms to destination.
3. Dutch people are the most friendly travellers
4. We have now moved house over 25 times
5. VIP bus means that you will stop at more restaurants (Friends of the driver)
6. Beer is very scarce in malaysia (Boooooo, dry for nearly 2 weeks)
7. Asking for a double bed room can often mean you get 2 beds in a room
Ok on with the blog.......
We left Phnom Pehn on the very cheap AirAsia for a quick 90minute flight with some nice airplane food. It was nice to leave Cambodia but not first without the pleasure of paying a further 50US Dollars "Exit Fee" (bit like get out of jail in monoply)
We stayed in Kuala Lumpar for a couple of days, including a visit to the Petronas Towers which are convieniently the same place as the private doctors to help fix Nic with her Baterial Virus a dose of Anti-biotics did the trick and she is all well now. KL is a nice city, green and lush and with a decent road network and modern look, we may get chance to see it again as we fly from here to India in a week or so.
We took the Super VIP bus from KL to the Cameron Highlands, its the home of Malaysian Tea and to be honest it puts Tetley and PG well behind in the tast stakes. In the Cameron Highlands we did a tour day starting with a small trek to see the world largest flower (Raffelisia), we ended up with some slow walking Malaysians who had several hundred pounds worth of equipment but seemed to struggle with the basics of actually walking, we then continued by minibus to the tea plantations factory and visitors centre, Strawberry Farm, Insect & Reptile centre. The second day we embarked on our trek to a nother plantation about 15kms of beautiful countryside, past 'Robinson Waterfall' (sorry grandad didnt get a pick of the sign but there is one of the fall), wild monkeys guided us along the way past the fallen trees and landslides and up to the plantation tea shop for a well deserved pot of tea for two. We decided not to walk back and got the worlds most classic taxi back to the Hillview Hotel in the main town of Tanah Rata where we were staying.
Next up the Perehentians
