We left Melbourne and headed to the coast and to my Uncle's beach house. It is located in Skenes Creek, which is 6km from Apollo Bay on the Great Ocean Road. That night we found 2 huntsman spiders in the house, so that was a bit freaky!
We didn't see anymore spiders after that and have just spent most of the days chilling out at the house, at the beach or by going into Apollo Bay.
We did borrow the car again a couple of days before Christmas and drove down the Great Ocean Road, visiting the Castle Cove, The 12 apostles and Loch Ard Gorge. We diverted a bit off the Great Ocean Road towards to Otway lightstation, we didn't go in to the lightstation as it was stupidly overpriced but we did see several koalas in the trees on the drive there. We stopped in Port Campbell for lunch but there wasn't really much else there so we swiftly left and stopped at the other tourist-y spots, like the Arch, London Bridge and the Grotto. We arrived into Port Fairy, where we were staying at the YHA, got our key and headed to the south beach. We stopped the car and got out as I had seen something swimming in the sea, I thought it was a seal initially but then we saw it hopping towards the rocks - it was a kangaroo swimming! Very bizarre! The following day we had brunch in Portland and then went to Cape Bridgewater, they had an amazing beach there, with grey/white sand and turquoise sea.We drove a little further to the 'blowholes', which was really just the sea smashing against the headland rocks, also near there were some limestone caves which we went to see.We didn't stay there long, as there were so many flies it was unbearable. We visited Warrnambool on the way back and went to Logans Beach, which is meant to be a great spot for whale viewing, but unfortunately it was the wrong time of year, but it looked like an amazing surf beach anyway. We stopped at Maits Rest, which is a rainforest walk just before Apollo Bay on the way back, we were hoping to see some snakes, but there was nothing!
Christmas Day!! We had the traditional present opening after I got back from Church and once everyone had surfaced. We had Christmas dinner late afternoon and we were both pretty drunk by the time we went down to the beach. It was an amazing day, it was so sunny and the sky was cloudless - very different to every other Christmas I've had at home.
For the next couple of days until New Years Eve we didn't really do much. One day we went down to the beach, Trav did some body boarding but the water was far too cold for me to get in.Trav and Philip caught a fish in a shallow pool on the sea front.Another day we went into Apollo bay and we walked back to Skenes Creek and I got really sunburnt.
