Monday was our waterpark trip which was a lot of fun and slightly stressful trying to keep track of all the kids, so strange all the rules of camp go out the window on trips and you just try your best to bring all the kids back alive! My favorite ride as always was the races which I kept winning because I am twice the size of most of the 10 year old in my group! That night was the start of color war. Which is basically like a big sports day although if anyone heard me call it that they would not be happy because it is so much more than that! Again all rules are out the window and camps are running around like crazy, everyone is divided into two teams the Sioux and the Mohawks teams go back for generations so if your parents went to camp you would be on the same team etc seriously relationships are ended over this game! So it can start at any time during the summer at any time day or night the canon goes off and everyone runs to the fire ring, kids have been waiting for this moment all summer sleeping with their colours under their pillow just in case the canon sounded. This year it went off just after dinner during evening activity and it was a huge stampede to the fire ring of screaming and people chanting their tribe songs. Each team has a chief and a brave who are our leaders, New people were put into their teams and then the games begin with of course a tamahawk wrestle! What else!? It was awful the Mohawk chief was twice the size of ours and ours was hanging on to the axe with both hands and feet while the other tried to get him off by slamming him into the ground! We lost. Next was tug of war first boys then girls then staff! They won 2 and we won the staff. Then we all went to bed and attempted to sleep after all the excitement! The next day after team meetings everyone was divided up into their games: volley ball soccer tennis water polo etc then some of the kids were set to work on the dance, story, song, flag, cheer and poem, I helped out with the dance ( which we won) with a tribal/contemporary dance and also a bit of the cheer which we also won. At the end of the 2 day long war the last event was the apache relay which is worth 100 points. Each team is split into groups and each groups has to run to a certain part of camp do a task such as recite the pledge of allegiance, draw a smiley face, jump in the lake, shoot a target at archery, collect a bag of horse poop etc and when 4 people from a group are back the next group can go! We lost. But it was a lot of fun after the final campfire they annoyed the winners it was pretty close but we lost overall! The next day we had a cabin day everyone needed it we spent the day playing cards, napping and chilling on the beach Friday was spent packing the kids stuff and getting ready for the next group! It's been an amazing session but I really do not feel ready to start all over again. All staff have to work at least one holdover weekend which is when the kids who are staying 2 sessions or more need entertaining before camp starts again and this weekend is my turn which it sucks because I could defo use a break right now but wasn't too bad took them sailing and made s'mores round the camp fire! Was pretty sad saying bye to my kids but the tips sweetened the deal slightly!
