It was our intention to do the morning walking tour of the city, but we woke to the heavens opening and bucketing a lake-full of water over the city. We caught a bus (courtesy of our host's Metro bus card) to the shuttle that would later take us to the airport and stored our luggage there in a locker and then walked to the centre of town to do what we could there in the torrential conditions. Needless to say that by the time we sat down for our final lunch, we resembled very wet Maltese poodles!!! We made our way back to the shuttle after lunch and tried to salvage what we could from the contents of Graeme's soaked hand luggage bag. Then we left for the normal airport drill and boarded our flight for the first leg of the journey home. We had a 1 hour stopover in Rio and then travelled on to Dubai for a 6 hour stopover. Showered, suppered, shopped and waited. Neither of us managed to sleep at all on the fights and so after 32 hours of airtime homeward bound, we landed in Johannesburg in a zombie state with elephant ankles, but oh so grateful to be hearing the South African lingo again, to be smelling South African pollution again.......just to be home again.
Our adventure was over, but we are in agreement, that this trip was the best of all we have had thus far.
