Here's the itenerary for the trip and the list of hotels we'll be in (with links to their websites). I would've liked to upload it as a Word document, but the site won't let me, so I'll just have to copy and paste. You guys can follow me and see what I'm up to day-by-day. I can't belive the trip is only 18 days aways! I'm so excited! Also, there are some of you that haven't yet told me what you'd like as your souvenir picture, so whoever reads this - LET ME KNOW! I'm trying to write everything down ahead of time, and I wanna be sure to get one for *everybody*.
England/Scotland ~ 7 May - 25 May, 2008 Wed 7 May Departure from Atlanta airport on British Airways flight BA2226 departing at 18.25Thurs 8 May 7.30 (UK time) arrival in London Gatwick with 10.25 connection to Glasgow on flight BA2958 arriving in Glasgow 11.50. On arrival in Glasgow we clear customs and join our tour coach for our journey to the coastal fishing town of Iona. Travelling via Loch Lomand and Loch Fyne we break our journey in the town of Inverarry. Late this afternoon we check into the Regent Hotel, Oban for 2 night's dinner, bed and breakfast.Fri 9 May After breakfast we board our coach for the short transfer to join the (name unknown) sailing from Oban to Craignure on the Isle of Mull. After rejoining our coach we drive across this beautiful island to the small village of Fionphort where we join the passenger ferry onto Iona. On the island admission is included to Iona Abbey. Free time is allowed for lunch and to explore this wonderful island before we retrace our steps across Mull and rejoin the afternoon sailing back to Oban. Dinner is provided again in our hotel this evening.Sat 10 May After breakfast we depart Oban at 9.30 and journey through the scenic Scottish hills to the town on Callendar where we break for an early lunch. Continuing our journey we travel via Stirling with views of Stirling Castle and onto the city of Edinburgh. On arrival we meet our local guide for a city sightseeing tour. Later this afternoon we check in to the Hilton Edinburgh Grosvenor Hotel - our home for 3 nights. Situated in the west end of the city the hotel is only a few minutes walk to Princes Street and all of Edinburgh's attractions. (dinner at own cost)Sun 11 May After breakfast we walk through the old town to St. Giles Cathedral where we attend morning worship. Later this morning we visit Edinburgh Castle (admission included). Remainder of the afternoon free (dinner at own cost).Mon 12 May Free day in Edinburgh to explore the city's many attractions, museums and galleries. Also take the opportunity to hike 'Arthur's Seat' - Edinburgh's volcano offering wonderful views over the city (dinner at own cost).Tues 13 May Sadly, we depart Edinburgh and travel south, crossing the border into England. We visit Holy Island and Lindesfarne before breaking for lunch in the small seaside town of Seahouses. This afternoon we visit Warkworth Castle before continuing our journey to Lumley Castle near Durham, our base for 2 nights. Dinner included each evening.Wed 14 May Morning visit to South Shields to visit the Roman Fort before continuing on to Durham. Free time is available for lunch before we join a tour of Durham Cathedral and join evening song in the Cathedral. We return to our hotel for dinner.Thurs 15 May This morning we head into the Tyne Valley and Hadrian's Wall. Travelling along the Wall we visit the fort of Chester's and Housteads. On leavingChester's we have included a light lunch of soup and sandwiches before continuing our journey onto the city of Carlisle. In Carlisle we visit the Tullie House museum before travelling onto the town of Keswick in the Lake District - our base for 3 nights. Dinner is included on all three nights at the Keswick Country House Hotel.Fri 16 May This morning we travel to the village of Grassmere. First we visit Dove Cottage and the Wordsworth museum before having free time to walk into the village to visit the local church where the Wordsworth family are buried. This afternoon we visit Rydal Mount, Wordsworth's home and later walk the scenic walk back to Grassmere offering wonderful views over the Lake District.Sat 17 May Free day in Keswick. You may wish to take the opportunity to walk to the stone circle or take a cruise on the lake.Sun 18 May This morning we depart Keswick and travel to the City of Chester. On arrival we have free time to explore the city and take lunch. Later this afternoon we meet to walk the city walls dating from Roman times before attending evening song in Chester Cathedral (15.30). After the service we join our coach for the short transfer to the Ramada Chester Hotel where dinner is provided.Mon 19 May This morning we depart Chester and travel south to Stratford Upon Avon arriving in time for lunch. Later this afternoon we meet to walk the town of Stratford visiting Trinity Church where Shakespeare is buried, and seeing many of the houses where he once lived. Later this afternoon we check into The Thistle Hotel, Stratford for two nights where dinner is included each evening.Tues 20 May After breakfast we visit the Royal Shakespeare Company theatre for a behind the scenes tour before enjoying this afternoon's matinee performance. Dinner is again provided in our hotel.Wed 21 May This morning we depart Stratford and travel south to Windsor. On arrival we visit the castle with the chance to see changing of the guard, before exploring the many rooms on display in this wonderful castle. Later this afternoon we leave Windsor and travel into the city of London for check in to the Hilton London Paddington Hotel. After time for check in and unpacking we rejoin our coach and travel across the city to the London Eye, to take a flight on this wonderful 135 mtr observation wheel offering wonderful views across the city. Afterwords we board our coach and return to our hotel.*** In London a zones 1 & 2 Travel Pass covering all of the city centre and attractions is included which covers free travel on the underground and London buses. This is provided on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.***Thurs 22 May After a leisurely breakfast we meet and travel via the underground to The Tower of London where admission is included with the opportunity to view 'The Crown Jewels'. On leaving the tower we travel to Leicester Square where several ticket agencies offer reduced priced theatre tickets. From here the remainder of the day is free to explore the city before we meet this evening for our theatre visit to 'Les Miserables' in London's famous West End and Theatre land.Fri 23 May Group visit to British museum followed by free afternoon and evening.Sat 24 May Free day in LondonSun 25 May Early morning transfer to London Gatwick Airport to join the British Airways flight BA2227 flight to Atlanta arriving 16.25 (US time).
