So the end of week 9, I met up with Debbie and got a bus to Deqin city which took 5.5 hours. Once we reached there we got a minibus to a smaller village called Falesch, (not sure how it is spelt) but it is very north of the Yunnan province. We stayed the night in a hostel which was quite cold but you could see the mountains in the distance.
The next day we got a minibus with three fellow Chinese people and got dropped off at the bottom of a mountain. We had to make our way to lower Yubong village which was a god 6 hour walk, and it was mostly uphill. We passed some beautiful waterfalls. Saw some beautiful scenery. But was very hard work. But eventually got to the village, had something to eat and an early night. The hostel we stayed in was quite warm but very basic, no warm water though.
The next day we got up early and headed to upper Yubong which was a 40 minute up hill walk. We then carried on towards the ice lake which was another long climb. Eventually got to the top and then carried on towards the lake. However when we got to the bottom the weather changed and a snow storm came from nowhere. We had a local guide with us that was showing a guy from Singapore the way that took us to a shack and lit a fire. However she added so much odd crap to it that it was smoking an kept making my eyes water. So we decided to go back just in case the weather got back. The walk back was easier. But still really hard work. This day I climbed 3400meters above sea. Which is the highest I have ever climbed.
Start of week 10. The next day we decided to leave, it has been pretty cold over the last few days and stayed in another cold dorm. But only cost 25 yuan (£2.50). We got up around 7am and headed off by 7.30am. The climb back up the mountain was 6km which took about 2 hours and then we had another 8km down hill. Which I thought was going to be easier. However it is hard work. But we made it down and this day I had climbed 3500meters. Am quite glad I did it. As the village is only accessible by walking, there are no cars or bikes, only two tractors and lots of cows, horses, mules, donkeys. So was great to see a mountain and then a village right in the middle. People were really friendly and happy.
We got back to Shangri-la the same night and just stayed at the hostel till the next day when we got the night bus back to Kunming. So we can start our journey to Vietnam.
