Hong Kong, Hong Kong
Hi everyone! I'm alive and well. My flight was fine, no delays, not really any stress and my luggage came through fine too. I was flying for a total of about 17.5 hours with 15 of those all at once.
My uncle (my only family in hong kong right now) met me at the airport and then I was met at my dorm by my "buddy" that was assigned to me to help me out as an exchange student. Moving in was pretty easily since I didn't bring too much. My dorm is decent, its a little small but I don't mind, especially since I don't have that much stuff anyways. I have a beautiful view... I can see the ocean out my window! Every once in a while I hear a ferry tooting its horn. The only downside is I don't get a/c yet because they have a system where you pay by how much you use it by requiring you to swipe your student ID to turn it on, but I arrived Friday night and the student office isn't open on weekends. It is reallyyy hot and humid here.
But other than that, I am having a great time here! For my first day in Hong Kong I explored the area around my hall/school. In the morning i walked 4 hours strait, ate lunch, went back to my dorm and took a nap, walked some more and went running to find the MTR (subway) station. It's about 3 miles away but I didn't know exactly where it was so with geussing and taking an unnecessarily long route, I ended up running a lot. I was really tierd by the end of the day but now I have a good sense of the area and now know where stores and other places are including this 24/7 internet cafe that I'm currently at. I live in a really hilly area (near the Peak for those of you who have general knowlege of HK) so I definately got in a lot of exercise and with the humidity here I sweated a ton.
My Cantonese is embarassingly bad, but i've been getting by and people generally understand me. And I geuss I don't look like too much of a wai gok yun- foreigner cause I was asked for directions twice! Not that I knew how to help them.
Two truths a lie: Travel Edition
1) The fire alarm went off at the airport
2) A lady fainted on the plane
3) I got to choose from over 100 movies on the plane
Two truths and a lie: Day One
A) A piece of someone's air conditioner fell off and nearly landed on me. If I had walked a little slower it probably would've hit me on the head.
B) I met a guy, we had lunch and he gave me his number.
C) I took pictures of Previas
Geuss!
p.s. none of these pictures are mine but I will upload some later. Like when I don't have to pay to use internet at a internet cafe filled with gamer boys trash talking each other in cantonese.
