We only had one full day in London so Beth and I decided to do what we do best, see everything!!
Starting out around 10am we hopped on the "tube" and took a 1 hour ride into central London. Taking the Tower Bridge stop we started out on a walking tour of the South Bank called the Queen's walkway.
It was a record day for warmth (and sun!) in London at 27C, so there was a lot of people out by the Thames River. The walkway was dotted with lots of little pubs and shops including a great little pizza place that we stopped at on the way back.
On our 6 hour walk, we viewed all the major spots including: Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, the London Eye (big ferris wheel), Parliament, Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace and Trafalgar Square.
At 5pm we met up with Clare and Chris at their work in central London. Lucky for me Friday was the day that Chris' work mates played soccer after work.
With only one day to spend it London it was fitting to get a chance to play a game of football. It was played on an outdoor pitch about two blocks away from their work. My touch wasn't too bad either, I managed to put in a couple of goals.
We then took another nice walk with Clare and Chris to find a place for dinner. We walked up through Trafalgar Square to Covent Garden and on to Leicester Square. Because it was such a warm, beautiful night, all the restaurants and pubs were full and spilling out on to the streets - every corner seemed to be filled with people having a great time, drinking beer! Everywhere felt like a giant party! We found a place to eat in Chinatown. It was so nice to spend the evening with good friends. We finished with a walk up to Piccadilly Circus and down Regent Street where all the upscale shops are found. At Oxford Circus, we hit the tube back to Hounslow and crashed! We had a really early morning to catch our flight to Peru.
