Katy's World Tour
So me and Jen took a week off work (which they wasnt very happy about as we couldnt get out shifts covered but this wasnt going to stop us). We rented a car, it was a bute, a grey, automatic, left hand drive Toyato Matrix (never wanna drive a manal again). We headed off midday and I drove us all the way to Jasper, which took about 10 hours, we had a dinner break in Kamloops and a few toilet breaks but it was pretty much straight all the way. The drive wasnt that bad as i was really exicted and the car was so nice to to drive. The weather wa bad, poring with rain, we kept driving through clouds as we were so high above sea level. It was bit scary as couldnt really see ahead of me!! We arrived in Jasper to realise they were an hours ahead so we missed all check in times for the hostels, so we had to brave it and sleep in the carpark of the hostel in the car. It was actually quite fun, it was like camping. I slept really well until i kept hearing a raffeling from the glove box so i opened it but couldnt see anything so thought nothing more of it. Until Jen opened the glove box in the morning to realise a mouse had got in through the engine and had a field day with my twix, wasn't happy!! It had been nibbled at, Jen pooed her pants and was worried that it was still in the car, but it was nowhere to be seen. We used the hostels showers, had breakfast and set of for Jasper National Park, the main strach of the Rockies. We stopped at many different attractions, the first being 'Thabasca Falls' a stunning waterfall, it was so beautiful, we went so close to the edge and took some great pictures! We also stopped at Jasper Icefields. This was really cool, it was a ice glacer that has been there for over 800 years, it never melts. We had to get a huge snow bus to the glacer. jen loved it, she had never been on a mountain with snow on it, although i have it was nothing to what ive seen. We arrived in Banff National Park, which is also part of the Rockies and probably bigger than Jasper. We stop at 'Peyto Lake' this probably was my favourite place, it was breath taking. The veiw was outstanding, the lake was a lovely greeny/blue colour, it was so still, like a postcard. The mountains and icefields in the background made it the most stunning place if ever seen. Next we stopped at Lake Louise, we were meant to work here, and although it was lovely im glad we didnt as there wasnt much to do, again the lake was stunning and the surroundings were pretty but not much else to do. We left there and finally arrived in Banff after about 8 hours, Jen had pre-booked a hostel so we got lost looking for that but fount it in end. We ate at the Old Spagetti Factory (the one we work at is much better) and then ahad a early night. After a well deserve sleep we woke up and went to Banff Hotsprings. It was like a huge hot bath outside, the snowy mountain background and beautiful sunshine made it heaven. We stayed ther most of the day and then headed to a town called Golden where we had booked a 'white water rafting trip' for the following day. Again camped in the car, Jen couldnt sleep so we had to rearrange the whole sleep arrangements, levaing me sleeping i an'L' shape, half in the boot and half in the back sit, it was ok until i couldnt feel my side!! We drove to the Kicking Horse River where we took part in a 2hour rafting tour. We had a BBQ lunch and then got ready in our wet suits and helmets etc, we looked horribel but everyone did, so that was ok. It was so fun, paddeling down the river was cool, when we got into the big rapids was the best, it was so funny, we all nearlly fell out loads, it was great fun. After 2 hours we had to start driving back home. We stopped in a small town just past Banff and stayed in the nicest hostel ever, it was like a old peoples home, it was so relaxing!! We headed off the next morning for the killer drive but we decided to take a different route (which was much longer), we headed south and drove along the U.S. boarder. We arrived in a town called Nelson after an adventful long drive. We didnt realise that the highway we were on actually turned into a ferry crossing across a river, so when the road came to the end and all we could see was a river we thought we had been driving the wrong was for 7 hours!! i wasnt happy but it was ok, we just had to get on the ferry accross the river!! I craved for toasted ham sandwiches, so i brought bread, butter and ham and had the nicest snawiches ever for dinner, lol. Had a good night sleep and then headed off again after a quick look around 'Wal Mart' (a huge store that sells everything). We finally got home about 8pm, that drive seemed the longest, the roads are soooo long here, and there are only about 2 cars on the road at one time, its crazy. Although I did drive alot it was all so worth it. The sights we saw were breath taking and so beautiful, never going to forget this week, it was heaven!!!
