Cannot believe we are coming to the end of New Zealand. It has gone so so quick. So excited about Fiji though. We have a trip booked for a few days to see all the cultural stuff then a week on an island lying on the beach - it's been a busy few months we deserve a holiday. Anyway back to New Zeland. Been in the North Island two weeks which is no way long enough but we have fitted in quite a lot. Skydiving was a big highlight, was so good. Wasn't as scary as bungy but I liked it more, probably fior that reason, Toyah liked both same. The freefall was amazing, felt like you were flying and then the parachute down was so good. Wanted to do it again straight away. Not sure it was so good for the guy I was strapped to! I had a cold which meant I had snot flying all over the place, so glad didn't get it filmed, that would have been embarrassing. Another highlight was going black water rafting which is pretty much going into a cave on a rubber ring in the dark, so much fun. Got to jump off water falls and see all gloworms and stuff. We also stayed in someones house that night because the hostel we booked into had been over run by schoolkids who turned up a week early so we had to stay in the owners house which was good because we got a room to ourselves and a really nice shower.
Just got back from the coast today where we visited somewhere called Hot Water Beach. They were not lying when they named it, the water under the sand was absolutely boiling, we burnt all the skin off our feet. Really wierd, you could dig a hole and the water was freezing then right next to it the water was steaming. Dug all the sand out and made pools to sit in. Visited some other beaches too which are all on the pictures.
Trying to think of more highlights before my internet time runs out. Ooo Rotorua was good. It is a city built on loads of sulphur and absolutly stunk of rotten eggs. When we were walking to our hostel from bus station it was pretty bad and then it went away and then as we reached the hostel it got bad again. Inside the hostel was ok until you stepped in our dorm where it was at its absolute stinkiest. It was bad! It actually woke you up in the morning when you had been sleeping in it all night. Didn't put us off visiting all the thermal pools though which were also really stinky but really interesting. Went to a Moari cultural night in Rotouro too which was ok, got to see the haka performed which was good. The traditional feast went down a treat too. Also got addicted to playing Mastermind at this hostel! One night so much that we forgot to go to the pub for a drink and sat in playing that instead and reading the top ten of eveything. We have turned into geeks haha.
In Auckland now which is ok. Going out to see some volcanoes and beaches and stuff tomorrow. Think I preferred Wellington as a city, more stuff to do.
I think that is main stuff we have done. Seen lots more nice scenery and been on lots of walks and stuff but pictures tell that better. Just getting excited for Fiji now. We both bought industrial sized suncreams today in preparation. We will get a tan before we return! Much love Katie and Toyahxxxxx
