Katie's Adventures
I've been in Bali for 3 days now - getting here was a nightmare!! Our flight from Singapore tried to take off 3 times (and I mean was literally about to take off and the pilot slammed the breaks on!). There was some mechanical fault with the air system but after 2 hours and the 4th attempt we were off. I arrived in Bali just after 11pm local time and getting through customs and collecting my luggage was so much easier, especially as I've been here before. Still had to pay $10 to get into the place tho!
I had arranged for transport to take me to my hotel and the guide, Argus was brilliant. I arrived at my hotel just after 12.30 and had the biggest bedroom with a double and single bed and massive bathroom! I couldn't sleep so I had a cup of tea with one of the staff and he gave me some info on the area. It's a lot cooler here than before, but I am up in the hills this time. The hotel has a pool and it's really pretty, only 16 rooms.
The first day I met a couple of English people, an Australian and a couple of Americans - typical that they are all on Intrepid tours which I have just done! A few of us went to the monkey forest and one of the girls wanted her photo taken next to a monkey, and the next thing we know it's grabbed her leg and tried to bite her!! They are so vicious, so we left not long after! I had a traditional Balinese Massage which was amazing, then me and Sue (Aussie) lady grabbed a late lunch and beer and watched the sunset over the rice fields - bliss!
Yesterday I chilled by the pool with Sara the American girl, then had lunch with her. It's really quiet here at the moment, not many tourists around and where I had dinner last night I was the only customer!
Today I booked myself on a cycle tour and it was brilliant! They company picked me up from my hotel along with a french couple and these strange Korean girls. We were driven up to a restaurant that overlooked a volcanic mountain and lake for breakfast, then onto a coffee plantation and then the cycle started. We rode for 25km in the end and it was really nice - going through villages where all the kids come running out to say hi and hi five you!! It was mainly downhill so not too tough! Got back about 3 and sat round the pool reading for a while. I'm a bit bored now, not really that hungry as we had a lovely lunch that was really filling, so just been around the shops and bought some more flip flops. Met some random German girl on the street and we're going to meet up tomorrow. Hope she turns up cos I need some female company, the guys at the hotel are lovely, but I need some girly talk!
Anyway, I am off for a nice cold Bintang!!! x x x x
