Katie's Adventures
We arrived in Hong Kong this afternoon after a long and tiring 12 hour flight. When we walked out of the terminal at the airport the heat and humidity hit us straight away, I don't think we'd ever been so sweaty and hot in our lives, not very attractive!!! After catching a bus into Kowloon, we got off at the wrong stop and struggled to find a payphone that worked to contact the hostel. Eventually a nice shopkeeper let us use his phone for free. Someone from the hostel came to collect us, not in a car, but on foot!!! So imagine us carrying around 65 litre backpacks and our day backs in 32 degrees, loads of traffic and people! My t-shirt was soaked through by the time we reached the hostel. Our room is on the 10th floor while reception is on the 14th, very strange building! The room is tiny but we have a TV and our own bathroom with a shower head, toilet and sink. For 10 pounds a night, it isn't bad. We just seem to be miles from anywhere touristy and have hardly seen any Westerners since we arrived. The locals keep staring at us because we're both blonde and pale!!! We managed to find a 7-11 shop and got some noodles because everywhere else is so busy or the menus are in Chinese only. So I guess we'll be quite skinny come Tuesday!!
We're quite homesick at the moment, but I guess that's because we're just getting used to it all and starting in a city that is so unfamiliar, unfriendly, huge, smelly, hot and scary, that's expected! Will update and add more postcodes and photos when I've got them x x x
