Katie's Travels
Bonjourno once again readers, welcome to the final instalment from New York!
First an apology: upon reading my entry of the 4th I noticed that I have misspelt the word 'this' at the end and wish to extend to the readers my most sincere apologies for this most inexcusable oversight!
Well that over, I will take a moment to make all the female readers jealous by informing you that in a marvelous and unexpected twist of fate I am now sharing my dorm room with three male models! Haha. Admittedly I haven't really spoken to one of them yet as he only arrived today and has been asleep.
I imagine that you are now expecting a lengthy account of the events of my day. You're right to do so, here it is. Actually it's an account of two days because I wrote yesterday's entry in the morning before anything had happened.
The main event of my day yesterday was a visit to the Empire State Building, when I miraculously managed to turn up at the only time the queue wasn't all the way down the street. Although, despite this I still had to queue for quite some time inside the building where there is a labyrinthe of rope barriers. I had an asian family behind me who snuk past at the ticket booth and managed to get in front of me,this event was followed by a silent, but deadly battle with a short hispanic women who kept trying to creep past, as if getting those few steps in front of me would make all the difference to the amount of time she had to wait! I did not yield however and even managed to resist the urge to kick the devious cow in the shins! Another happy note to this story is that the asian family got confused by the signs for the snack bar, went the wrong way and ended up at the back of the queue.
The view, when I eventually got there was amazing and I definitely picked the right day as it was the only day it hasn't rained.
Whilst on the street yesterday (walking, not begging or soliciting) I actually heard someone use the words 'thata way' in the course of a serious conversation. I felt this was worth noting for its linguistic implications and because it's funny, I hope you agree.
Today I was up and out by 9am (aren't you proud dad) on my way to the Staten Island Ferry, on the way I came across Wall Street and took a look around though the pouring rain somewhat hindered the enjoyment.
I've started a hobby in New York of taking all the leaflets that are handed out in the street and sticking them in my travel journal which you will be glad to know, Julie and Pete, I am using a lot.
If I carry on walking the amount I have been I fully expect to have legs like a racehorse when I return! Just to let you know I walked about 12 miles today and thats probably less than the last few days!
I now have to pack my bag again ready to move on. Tomorrow I will be facing the dual challenge of getting up at 6am and hailing a cab in the street, I might give it an extra half an hour just to make sure I can master the art of gesturing emphatically in enough time to get to the joining hotel for TrekAmerica.
Well faithful readers I must go now as the time is nearly up.
I will try to put some photos on here as soon as I work out how that can be done.
Love to all
Katie
