hello friends (and dave), we're writing this in sydney the day after we left singapore, but due to a cock-up somewhere in writing the last entry to this it didn't save, so we pretending we're still there so it goes on the map....
anyway, singapore is amazing, proper multicultural, very clean, hot and sunny (mostly), and generally friendly if you act like an idiot foreigner (or infact are one...). we have been to the changi museum, which was where the POWs were kept in WWII. this was particularly interesting as katie's grandpa was kept here before being sent to the thai-bhurma 'death' railway, though he was one of the 'lucky' ones who made it home after 4 years.
we've also been to the rainforest - a patch of which was saved form destruction when the island was bulit over and still houses a few of the original beasts. i thought i saw a comodo dragon, but it turned out to be just a big lizard (what's the difference?!?), so i had my pic taken by it in proper tourist style, and then by some monkeys.
the rest of the time was spent wondering around looking at all the cool stuff in the city - temples, mosques, massive hotels, chinatown in chinese new year, a very nice underground train system - and sampling the food and drink - chinese, indian served on banana skin and eaten with hands (usually. we were offered forks, which we gracefully accepted), local seafood consisting of crayfish, squid and other unidentified fish products (billy, you woulda loved it...) and the obligatory singapore sling (a posh cocktail served at a very posh hotel bar for a relatively posh price).
all in all, its been a great experience spoilt only by the fact that we have been majorly jet lagged. afternoon naps feel good at the time, but do not help.....
