Sorry for not keeping everyone updated this week. It is a little hard to keep up with everything when you have so much that you want or need to do all of the time. This week has been particularly busy and I have been trying to get my classroom ready for the first day of school for about a week now. It's still not quite ready, but I feel as though many of the teachers are feeling that way.
Well, I didn't keep track of this week as good as I usually do; meaning I didn't keep point form notes. However, to be honest once I get home from school I just want to pass out, as I am so exhausted. So let me tell you about my day yesterday, and maybe I'll fill you in on some other things that happened throughout the week.
Yesterday was a pretty good day at school. When you arrive in the morning there is a finger scan machine that you need to check yourself in and out of every day; this is particularly important for security and tracking your hours at the school. I spent most of yesterday puttering in my classroom, as I had a huge shipment of supplies come in the day previous and all of the materials needed to find a home in my small classroom. After a few hours of work I did manage to find a home for it all. I also painted my own sign for the door to my classroom. However, some of the elementary teachers get very creative when it comes to decorating their room, and I think it's quite impressive. One of the teachers made a palm tree, with bananas and monkeys for his door and it looks fantastic; maybe I'll try and get a picture of it later.
Once school was over everyone was just ready to get out of there as it was Thursday (essentially Friday) after a six day work week. I went home, and can you guess it, I passed out. However, I only feel asleep for about an hour and then I was ready to go for the rest of the night. Lynda and I decided to hangout just for a while, but eventually I went out with Brent to Stu and Brandon's place to get some food. It was pretty cool to go over to Stu and Brandon's place as they live over near the Etisalt building and it was my first time in there. We all ended up getting some food at a place nearby and essentially for $3.00 dollars I go a chicken wrap, French fries and drink.
After dinner I returned back to the area of town I live in, because the day previously I went out shopping and ordered three custom made shirts. [Yesterday] - I had returned from the Abu Dhabi mall after shopping with Dianne, where I managed to get my hands on a Tim Horton's coffee. The taxi cab driver on my way home dropped me off a block away from where I wanted to go, but I was sick of explaining to this guy where I lived and he had no clue; so I figured I would walk the rest of the way home. On my way back I saw some shops in the area that I hadn't explored yet and thought it would be fun to check them out. As I was there I noticed several textile shops. I've known for a while that you can get some clothing made in the styles that you want around here, but I had no idea how to go about it. As I stood outside the shop admiring the intricacies of the fabrics, a man from inside the shop insisted that I come inside and look. I figured I had nothing to lose, so I agree and had a look around. It was actually really neat, as this tiny shop was literally filled with fabrics from the ground to the ceiling and it is almost a Closter phobic experience, but still a great experience at the same time. Eventually I had this one Indian man help me out, as he spoke a bit of English. After some time and explaining to them I want fabric for a shirt and not a Sari, I finally picked out three fabrics I would have made into shirts. They were ready the next day, and I'll have to put up pictures of me wearing them.
