4 countries, 3 months, 2 friends and 1 huge trip!
Brisbane!
Woo we left Noosa about half 10 with Louie, a very nice female driver. It was about a 3 hour drive to Brisbane and we were with Gillian on the bus which was good. After a quick subway for lunch we got to Brisbane and got a quick bus tour. We got to Base Brisbane (central) and checked in. The hostel was huge! It was an old building so it was quite cool architecture with an old style tower of terror lift, but we got to our floor successfully and got in our room with the stupid credit card keys (they NEVER want to work for me - I much prefer the traditional style keys!) we dumped our stuff then got out of room quickly as there was a woman in there who actually STUNK! And she was a strange lady too. We found our Irish friends and Kyle and Liam (who had been separated - this was amusing when they were both drunk and couldn't remember where each other was haha!).
We took a walk around Brisbane and it was so strange to be in a city, after being in small beachy town resort places. Brisbane seemed good and we were excited by all the shopping opportunities (although funds wouldn't allow extravagant purchases - the downside of being a poor traveller - so many shops, so little cash!) and we walked a pretty long way to the South Bank where the city lagoon was. We crossed the river and finally got there, had a nice paddle and chilled out with the skyscrapers all around us.
We got back to the hostel late-ish and went for dinner in the Base bar next door for a cheap meal (10 dollars again, not bad!) and it was good. We had a few drinks then after such a late night the night before, we decided to go to bed.
The next morning we had decided to go to the Koala Sanctuary! So after a bit of faffing, we eventually got going, and we went with Lynn, Aileen and another Scottish girl from our dorm called Kate. We got the bus and it took about 40 minutes. We got there, paid, got a map, thought crikey how big is this place?! Two minutes later we had walked around half of the place, and decided it wasn't as big! We made our way to the koalas and they were gorgeous! So cute!! They had loads of different sections, like the 'retired' koalas, the mamas and babas, the young men etc! We queued up to have a cuddle and photo with one, and the one I held was called Sumo and he was pretty massive! Really cute though, and surprisingly heavy, nice thick fur. We all got photos and then watched a snake presentation.
After some lunch we went up to the bird of prey show which was good, then the sheepdog show. We then went and fed some kangaroos and got the bus back late on that day. It was a great day out!
We all went out that night with the Irish but it happened to be the day before Good Friday when everything was going to shut at 12am because Good Friday is a big deal over here - its the biggest public holiday of Easter, so we had to finish in the pub then, we went back to the Irish's room and drank a bit more, then chilled out, then popped to a 24hr mcd's! Good night :)
The next morning, a few hangovers later, we got breakfast, took a walk through Brisbane before getting the small bus at 2pm in the end, onto Surfer's Paradise! It was really nice as all the Irish and Kyle and Liam were moving on together to there (apart from Gillian :( ) so we all were moving together at last! Surfer's next!
