Paris, France
Paris! Yesterday I walked alll the way from Arc De Triomphe, down the Champs Elysees, across the Seine and to the Eiffel Tower! I stood in a freezing cold line for 40 minutes but it was definately worth it, even though I couldn't feel my fingers. On the wayto the top the lift was so busy I was squished right up against the door and got a bit scared about it opening...eeek! At the top the view is amazing, you can see all around Paris, Monparnasse, Sacre Coeur, Notre Dame, Arc De Triomphe, Champs Elysees and all of the amazing Palaces. I could only stay up there for 10 mins because it was so cold and I left my hat at home :( So then I walked back to the flat and along the Champs Elysees which was all lit up with Christmas lights, so pretty. I walked along Rue Montaigne which is the street with the underpass where Princess Diana died, although I didn't know this at the time, I chose it because, the shops were ones such as Chanel, Gucci, Armani, Valentino, Pucci, Dolce & Gabanna, Jimmy Choo.....OMG it was so fun!! Couldn't buy anything...but one day!!! Then when I got home Simon's friend Colin had just arrived back from Angola, so we got ready and went out for a few drinkies. We went to the Sir Winston which my mum had told me about from when she lived here in the 70's and she had described how the basement had mirroirs everywhere, and it was exactly the same...so cool. Then we went on to a wee bar/restaurant with the most amazing red wine and cognac, then to Cafe Dada. I think I will need to live here at some point, it is amazing, and there are lots and lots of handsome men everywhere, I mean everywhere!! I was a bit worried about the 'rude' french people I had been warned about, but everyone so far has been so friendly and lovely and helpful, I have managed to get by on very basic French, but think I should definately learn some more while I'm here.
This morning, I had a lie in then we went for some brucnh at a restaurant at the bottom of teh Champs Elysses next to the Presidential Palace, it's a 1920's themed pub called 'Bugsy's' and it was full of British people, very strange, but fun, and I had a yummmmy Irish Breakfast minus the Haggis. Then we walked along past all the Presidential buildings and accross the bridge to the Museo Rodin, really really good, saw lots of interesting sketches and sculptures...including the 'thinker' and also a temp exhibition of Rodin's erotica sketches, which was rather graphic...ahem!! After the museo we got the Metro to St. Germain, a really amazing area of Pairs, loads of winding cobbled streets and cafe's and market stalls. Went for a quick drink at La Pub St. Germain....then we walked along to the Notre Dame Cathedral, which was absolutly breath taking, it is just sooo amazing, we went inside and because its was sunday the place was so busy, some of the sculptures and stained glass were so beautiful, teh photos don't really do it any justice, you need to go see it in person. After Notre Dame we headed back towards the flat stopping off at the Arc De Triomphe, I had no idea how many steps you have to climb to get to the top, but its def worth it, we were walking up with these three guys in their 50's or 60's and we were absolutly knackered but determined not to be showed up by some old men so kept on going. Then at the top you have the most amazing 360 view of the whole of Paris, I love it!!
Came back to the flat and got Pizza Hut,,,yes not very Parisian but easy and yummy!! Tomorrow I have to get the train at 9 am down to Bourg St. Maurice in the Alps!! Wooo, although I'm loving Paris sooooo much I will be really sad to leave, hopefully will get back to this city sometime soon.....
