Yesterday I couldn't wuite sort out my navigation around Rotorua and I alked around in circles for a while trying to find a supermarket then walked around in more circles trying to find the hostel again! on the bright side I have now seen most of the city!
Went to eh Polynesian Spa which is rated in the Top 10 Spa's in the world. It was VERY relaxing with outdoor pools overlooking the lake ranging from 30 - 45oC!
Spent a while relaxing and then had to navigate my way back to the hostel again - more circles!
YHA hostels are BIG on being green and protecting the environment, the lights in the corridors and bathrooms work on a sensor it is pretty cool when you walk in somewhere and a light automatically switces on for you. Not so cool when you are in a shower cubicle where there are no sensors and no one has come into the bathroom to reactivate the sensor the entire time you have been in the shower so that when you have just stepped out of the shower ALL the lights go out and you are left fumbling around in the pitch black trying to find a towel so that you can step out and re-activate the sensor!!!!!!
I still havn't managed to cure my irrational fear of shower curtains WHY do they decide that you want them to attatch themselves to your body whilst you are trying to get clean!?!?! Have been spoilt the last 3 nights with showers that have doors NO curtains!
Today the weather has been horrible! and it is ANZAC day so EVERYWHERE is closed! I got a little better at navigating and managed to get all the way to the Government Gardens without any circles! Wandered around the gardens towards "New Zealands most photographed building" Like evey other tourist I took a photo! The I headed towards a park which had bubbling pools of mud everywhere with steam coming out of them, it was pretty stinky!
Something I have noticed about New Zealand and it was the same in Fiji is that all their prices are accurate to the cent e.g. $1.99 but the smallest coin they have is a 10 cent so when you come to pay they round to the closest 0.10, what is the point of this????
Did you know - 1 billion litres of milk is produced per year by N.Z.'s 4 million Dairy cows but this is only 2% of the worlds milk production!
