When we arrived in Hong Kong it was like arriving in London. Our hotel is amazing and location is great. On our first day we walked to meet a friend that we had been put in touch with. Having Lauren was like having a free personal tour guide. We went for lunch in mid levels, you get there by a random escalator that takes you from the bottom to half way up the peak. After our lunch we headed for the Star ferry which is a way of getting to Kowloon which is on the mainland. When we got off the ferry we headed for a 50 minute foot massage which was amazing!!! Although I enjoyed it and was very relaxed, James giggled his way through the whole 50 minutes, much to the amusement of the little Chinese lady doing the massage.
We then walked to Temple Street night market for some more haggling and generally buying stuff that I don't need. On the way through the market there was a whole row of stalls dedicated to 'fortune telling' so of course we had our palms read. I was quite amazed that the fortune teller and I shared the same birthday.
As we continued through the market we came across roadside karaoke which consisted of 3 stalls all battling out singing over each other, very random.. I'll post picture soon. :o) To finish the day we had a meal at an Egyptian restaurant, it was situated on a strip like being in Spain.
On Sunday we had a chilled day as it rained for the whole day, fighting our way through little Chinese people with spiky umbrellas was not our idea of fun so we got the bus to Stanley market which has lots of shops and restaurants. We had lunch on the harbor, which was really nice. In the evening we watched the Symphony of lights which is a light show were they use all of the tall building along the river to do a light show to music, it really was unusual.
On our last day we went up to the peak, by tram. It's the highest point on HongKong, it was a bit misty and quite cold at the top. We walked 3000m around the top of the peak and the walk was well worth it for the views. On the way back to our hotel we spotted a little local market selling anything from fish and veg to clothes and Chinese decorations. Hong Kong really looked very colourful as the Chinese are preparing for the new year and everywhere is being decorated.
At the moment we are at the airport waiting to board our flight to Vietnam. Missing you all lots xxx
