Another Unesco world heritage site Hue (prounounced h-way as we soon found out) is the spiritual heart of Vietnam.
Its a not so peaceful start to the day however as Tom is still completley covered in this unknown rash and it is now spreading. As soon as we get off the train we make our way to the hospital, its a huge hospital and is dominated my trainee doctors all walking around in their lab coats. We find an English speaking IT technician who very kindly shows us around the hospital, he tells us this is the biggest hospital in the whole of Vietnam. Tom is treated like a celebrity and is skipping queues willy nilly. Without this mans help we would have no idea where to start in this mammoth of a hospital. Tom is transferred to dermatology and is surrounded by 7 doctors all prodding and poking him. He finally gets a diagnosis of fibrosis rose, which is not serious just a really unattractive spreading of little red patches. He has some more medication which will hopefully clear it up once and for all.
Anyway back to business, we have come here to visit the old crumbling Citadel. Although the majority of the buildings here have been ruined by the Americans during the war the Citadel is still very impressive. The citadel is surrounded by a 2.5km walls which hides lots of deserted gardens, ruined palaces and ceremonial halls. Your imagination runs away with you as we entered the Forbidden purple city which sounds like something off a computer game. You could spend hours here just strolling around and stumbling across ruins but we are literally sleep walking around here and have to head back to the hotel for a energy boost.
That evening we go to Resturant Bloom. This was a really quaint cafe which gains its reputation from employing and providing cookery training courses for local disadvantaged youths.
Tomorrow is another early start (Im beginning to wonder when I am going to burn out now!) as we're off to Hoi An. Its time we headed down south for some much needed sunshine.
