Day three:
Today we made our first solo train journey from Bangkok to Ayuthaya. Ticket choices we're either 15 bhat for 3rd class or 330 bhat for second. Guess which one I made us choose? of course 330 bhat, Im new to this, its going to take me a few weeks to settle in before you see me chilling with chickens, goats, and the kitchen sink on a train. We arrive in Ayuthaya and head to the hotel we booked last night. We arrive and this hotel and it is actually a home stay, its lovely. The owners are very welcoming and kind. After dumping the bags we head straight to the centre of Ayuthaya. Ayuthaya is a UNESCO World heritage site and the old Thai capital. We walk through a park and see 20 elephants just strolling around. Its so surreal just walking along next to an elephant. In the middle of the park is
Wat Phra Mahathat, a temple accomodating the largest buddha in Thailand. I don't know if you are familiar with this but the MOST disrespectul thing to do in Thailand is show the soles of your feet to a buddha, of course I'm walking through the temple and right infront of the buddha I step on something sharp, I yelp and naturally go to grab the spike out of my foot pointing the sole of my foot directly at the BIGGEST BUDDHA IN THE WHOLE OF THAILAND. Typical me. If you're gonna do it you might as well do it properly. Bad Katie. I sit on the steps and think about what Ive just done wondering who saw like a child on the naughty step at home. Next we head towards the market and grab some lunch, cockraches, crickets, frogs?.. nah I'll stick to noodes and vegetables and at 10 bhat its an absolute steal. The market is full all all sorts of bits and bobs from fake ray bans to multi coloured chicks. We make our way back to the house where we chill out on the sofas with a beer and plan what tomorrow will have in store. Hours pass, Toms drunk and talking absolute nonsense and Im tucking into a bowl of Tuna and noodles prepared by our lovely host. Tomorrow is an early start as we're getting a 10 hour train to Chiang Mai. Hopefully we'll make the train, theres only one on a sunday and we have already booked our hotel in Chiang Mai. Fingers crossed Tom isnt hungover in the morning.
